Location description from owner

The Salzburg Region

Maria Alm is the jewel in the crown of the Hochkoenig region of Salzburgerland. In summer Maria Alm offers walking tours, mountain biking, valley cycling. climbing, archery, tennis, an outdoor swimming pool and water park, high ropes course, and has its own 18 hole golf course. It also boasts the world's first forest slide park - 5 huge slides whizz you from the top of the mountain, through the trees and into the valley. In winter skiers and boarders can enjoy 150 kms of linked pistes with a good mix of blue, red and black slopes and lots of off-piste tours, a top station height of over 2,000m, and 3 snow parks. Those who have discovered Maria Alm keep it a closely guarded secret, and skiing is queue free. The region has an impressive snow record but just in case there are 110 snow makers and 200 snow lances. Your ski pass is valid for the immense Ski amadé region with access to 720 kilometres of pistes and 270 lifts. Off the piste Maria Alm also offers well prepared winter walking trails, 2 floodlit toboggan runs, ice skating, horse-drawn sleigh rides, and 40 kilometres of cross-country skiing.

Maria Alm

The stunning village of Maria Alm, which nestles at the foot of the 3,000m high Hochkonig mountain, is situated in one of the most spectacular parts of Salzburgerland. The village is home to the beautiful 13thC. Pilgrims Church, its 83m high spire the tallest in the province. Steeped in Austrian tradition and presenting a picture-postcard image, Maria Alm offers with a busy programme of events celebrating it's heritage, with traditional music and dance, arts and craft events and seasonal festivals throughout the year. There are numerous attractions within an hours drive: Zell am Zee is 11 miles from Maria Alm, a picturesque town on the banks of the lake. The magnificent Burg Hohenwerfen Castle at Werfen (27 miles); the Ice Caves at Werfen a vast natural network of underground caverns; the Krimmler Waterfall at Krimml (45 miles), which has the highest drop in Europe; Salzburg, the home of Mozart and 'The Sound of Music' can be reached easily by public transport.

“Excellent Accomodation”

Reviewed 10 Sep 2014

Excellent apartment, everything you need.Bath which was lovely as so often only a shower. Always hot water. Situated close to the centre in easy walking distance to everywhere in Maria Alm. if you like walking excellent footpath and alms to visit at all levels of height and distance! Local entertainment in the town square on Sunday and Tuesday

“Ideal Apartment for couple”

Reviewed 24 Mar 2014

We've been back several times as the apartment fulfils all our needs for a ski week, great location, comfy bed, well equipped kitchen. Ski lift is a 5 min walk away and the bus to other resorts is five minutes the other way. Maria Alm has some lovely friendly restaurants and the journey from Innsbruk, Salzburg or even Munich are very easily done (trains run to connect with buses) so you don't need a car but if you do have one there is ample car parking. Have also stayed in the summer and it is just as good, with the added bonus of sunshine on the balcony whilst having a sundowner! Simon & Justine the owners are very helpful and friendly and go above and beyond to make your stay a great experience.

“We love the place”

Reviewed 1 Nov 2011

The English owners of the appartment (who live in the village too) are very welcoming and helpful and will ensure you have a good stay. It's just a short walk to the first ski lift (or ski bus to next mountain!) and the town centre is not much further. Maria Alm is a lovely little village - some nice restaurants and good ski shops, whilst not brought down by loud clubs and hoards of buses full of day trippers.
