Description

'The Round House' is a luxury stone cottage, a barn conversion, on the edge of fabulous & well known Coombe Valley (a favourite with ramblers), 2 miles from Kilkhampton village and 5 miles from Bude, North Cornwall. A 2 miles walk via footpaths down through National Trust Coombe Valley to Duckpool beauty spot and beach, leading on to miles of coastal and beach walks - great for walkers. Nearby Bude is a beach resort, with large classic sandy beaches, a huge free open air beach swimming pool and other attractions associated with a resort town. The cottage is in an attractive rural setting on a working farm, with grass gardens. Farm play field with goal posts & swings. Approx 5 minutes stroll over to free fishing on the farm's 2 ponds. One pond (approx 66 yards long) was restocked with coarse fish during 2010 (tench, golden rudd & carp). Tench up to 3lbs and carp up to 10lbs. Fun fishing (not for serious fishermen). The second pond dates back to mediaeval times

The second pond dates back to mediaeval times and was originally used as a carp pond by monks in the 12th century and is one of the oldest carp ponds in the country (featured on a T.V. programme). The pond has now been set aside as a nature sanctuary and migratory birds including ducks commonly make an appearance. The ponds are in a pretty, wooded setting, making a great venue for picnics, fishing, or just to enjoy the scenery. The more energetic may enjoy the walk across the adjacent field (with panoramic views over the countryside) along the footpath through the farm's 13 acres of woodland. Cot & High Chair. Linen inclusive. Electric inclusive. Heating is inclusive and easy to keep warm with wall mounted electric radiators in all rooms including bedrooms. Own adjacent off the road parking for 2 cars. No pets.

Bedroom 1 (downstairs) has 1 double bed & T.V. Bedroom 2 (an impressive gallery bedroom with balcony, great fun for children, overlooking the lounge area) has 2 single beds. Roomy open plan living area. Kitchen area has an electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer and washing machine. Lounge/dining area with wide screen T.V. & DVD. Downstairs bathroom with bath, overhead shower, toilet and washbasin.

Location description from manager

The England region

Morwenstow hamlet is famous as the home of The Vicar Of Morwenstow and you can visit the old church and the Bush Inn. Nowadays the area is popular with walkers in the know, who enjoy the walking delights and scenery of Coombe Valley. Walk down the valley to Duckpool National Trust seaside beauty spot & good sandy beach. Spectacular rugged cliff and valley walks. Children seem to enjoy scrambling up the downs at Duckpool. On the edge of Coombe Valley are places of interest such as the previously mentioned historic Morwenstow Church, adjoining Rectory Farm tearooms, Morwenstows Bush Inn and slightly further afield Hatland Abbey (worth visiting, a privately owned country house and gardens with Gainsborough paintings etc). About 5 miles south is the beach resort of Bude which boasts huge classic sandy beaches- a quieter beach resort alternative to Newquay further down the coast. On the main beach at Bude is a massive and free outdoor swimming pool built into the cliffs. Boating (rowing boat hire) up Bude Canal all walk along the canal, passing the Bird Nature sanctuary, finishing the walk at Tearooms. Other attractions in Bude such as leisure centre with indoor pool and Ten Pin bowling, tennis courts, etc. Local attractions include the many quaint old villages and the Tamar Lakes (one a Nature Reserve with coarse fishing), the other lake reserved for water sports (can hire boats) childrens park play equipment such as climbing frames/swings and cafeteria.
