“Disappointing”

Reviewed 27 Apr 2018

Eleven of us stayed here in both cottages over Easter for a week.We arrived around 7.30pm and when I opened the front door to that mustardy smell of the main cottage I was expecting the worst. After initial inspection, it didn't look too bad, but on further investigation we counted about 5 cobwebs on the windows and the dust was quite thick in places. Anyway, we settled in and ate dinner. Two of our party were staying in the smaller cottage and went to have a shower only to discover there was no hot water or heating. I texted the owner's local rep and copied the owner as well. Sadly, as it was late, nothing could be done, so no hot water or heating till 11.00am the next day. It materialised that both gas canisters were empty !! The second day, we had a long day out and when we came back around 7ish, to find none of the 4 TV's were working. We contacted the local rep and the owner called us to say someone would come along the next day. So after 2 days it wasn't looking that good, things happen I know but to run out of gas ! This shouldn't happen. Thankfully the rest of the stay went smoothly. The cottages are ideally located, with lovely views. The main cottage is meant for 10 people (sleeps 10) but the dining room only seats 6 and lounge seats 5 !! The bathroom downstairs is small, if your over 5ft 10 you have no chance of having a shower without crouching. The kitchen is also small. Overall it was disappointing, they state a spring clean happens but not yet it hasn't, I noted reading the reviews that someone else mentioned cobwebs and dust 2 years ago, so not a lot has changed since. For the price, I can't really recommend this accommodation. Note to the owner, an apology and a gesture of goodwill goes along way.

Owner's reply: Thank you for the review as feedback is important. I apologise that you had some issues during your stay- two cleaners are employed to ensure the property is spotless before guests arrive as a large property. I am clearly still getting some issues and this will need to be addressed for future guests. Your stay was the first of the season so the heating had been on for a week before your stay to air the properties. With no mains gas in such a rural location a company is employed to check the gas bottles but on this occasion it was not noticed with the late arrival. Emergency gas bottles are kept at the property hence we were able to replace the following morning. Again due to rural location we have to rely on satellite. The intermittent problem with the Satellite reception is still a puzzle - I have since employed a specialist company to intestigate but they could not find a fault and the problem has not returned. If it does I will have a new dish installed regardless that the current one is only 2 years old. I am glad you enjoyed the views and location - your note about limited facilities/space in the larger cottage is reflective of a character rural cottage - in the warmer months a large covered outside dining area works better for larger groups - I will however make further note in the cottage description. Regards Gareth

Lovely cottage , the cottage wasn't booked the week before we had booked it , so we emailed the owner to see if we could have the Friday night , he let us have the Friday night and left the key in a safety box at no extra cost !!! We thought this was Lovely, the barbecue area was fab , full gas bottle and undercover so the weather didn't stop us , our children loved the upstairs bedroom and the balcony, garden was lovely we did have to block off a few areas with chairs as otherwise our dogs could have got out but this was easy enough to do , we would definitely all return .

“Loved it and so sad to leave!”

Thank you so much for your very hospitable service .... We weren't very lucky with the weather so no bbq! But that didn't spoil our enjoyment of your cottage and beautiful Cornwall..... Got tears in my eyes thinking about it... Such a lovely place to stay with our grandchildren and create such special memories.... Thanks again

Owner's reply: So glad you enjoyed your stay and the Town of Marazion. It is a shame about the unpredictable English weather but Cornwall offers so much regardless of the weather. Thank you for leaving the house in such good order.

“This is a fab house in a fab location!”

There was 9 of us in total stayed the first week of the school holidays. The house is great, plenty big enough for us all. The upstairs terrace was a real sun-trap and great for a leisurely cup of coffee in the mornings. The decking area was used every night, as was the great BBQ even when it rained as the terrace covers a lot of the decking so it didn't matter if it rained! All the essemtials you could possibly need were in the kitchen and even a welcome litre of milk! All in all I would recommend this house to anyone, great location, great accommodation, what more could you need!

“Large peaceful home in great location”

A spacious house close to the village, yet in a quiet location with no through traffic. We had 10 staying of all ages and had plenty of room, the garden and house are safe for children, with fenced decking and garden. Plenty of parking, and a short walk to the beach, ice creams, restaurants and coffee shops. From the upper bedroom you wake up to the view across Mounts Bay, and you can breakfast on the terrace of the hotels in Marazion opposite the Mount after a 10 minute walk. We also had a fine Sunday lunch in Marazion and if you didn't want to drive for a week then everything is close by to just kick back and relax. For the teenagers there is a big TV and dvd player for family evenings, and a cycle track and walks on local foot paths, and the coastal Path. We walked from the open air theatre in Minack to Lands end and scenery was spectacular. All in all a very relaxing time and was enjoyed by all - recommended
