The Algarve on the south coast of Portugal has spectacular picture-postcard beaches and dramatic cliffs and brightly painted fishing villages. To the North the region and is bordered by the beautiful Monchique mountains which create a micro-climate that ensures the year round mild climate. The Algarve has over 3,000 hours of sunshine, with hot dry summers and mild sunny winters. In springtime the air is filled with the scent of almond blossom and the days are usually warm, with cooler nights. Summer in the Western Algarve sees temperatures of 24 - 30 C, often with a welcoming sea breeze, while autumn is a favourite time of year for many people when temperatures are still hot but the pace is a bit slower and quieter!
