How to get there

Location, nearest airports and other useful information:

Montenegro is a small, independent country situated on the south coast of the Adriatic Sea, part of the Mediterranean region, known for its natural beauties. Montenegro is not a member of the EU, although the currency used is Euro. The official language is Montenegrin (although it has a different name, it is the same language spoken in Croatia, Serbia and all other countries of former Yugoslavia, with slight dialect differences).

Herceg Novi is situated between two international airports, Dubrovnik Airport in Croatia (30 km, approx.18 miles) and Tivat Airport, in Montenegro (25km, approx.16 miles). Dubrovnik is served by British Airways, Croatia Airlines, TUI, Jet2Holidays, budget airlines etc. Tivat Airport is served by several airlines. ***Flight duration is approx. 2 hrs 15 mins (from the UK). Transfer from either airport to our apartment takes about an hour, traffic dependant (taxi/travel agencies).

***Whichever airport you choose, we are happy to help you organise transfer from/to the airport. Car-rental is available at all airports and many agencies in the town.

Montenegrins drive on the right side of the road. Headlights set to dipped beam must be used whatever time of day you are driving and regardless of whether it is sunny or not.

Parking is restricted.

Getting around

You may wish to take a day trip to Dubrovnik Old Town or Kotor Old Town (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Monastery Ostrog, one of the most important Orthodox Christian pilgrimage sites worldwide, is about 80 km away. The monastery is dedicated to Saint Basil the Orthodox, built on an almost vertical mountain cliff in the 17th century. There are several National Parks such as Durmitor, Skadarsko Jezero, Biogradska Gora, Lovcen etc.as well as Tara Canyon (second deepest canyon in the world). You may wish to try rafting on Tara, fantastic experience in wild nature! Day trips are available to book from many agencies in the town, even at short notice (a day, or two). Taxi service is very well developed and used throughout the coast.
