How to get there

The property is not all that difficult to find and we always remind people to ask the locals if they have any uncertainty. It actually is an opportunity to talk to these very friendly people.

It's about a three hour drive from San Jose through some very pretty country. The roads are good but two lanes for much of the way, so take your time and leave earlyish.

After you leave the airport you'll see a sign saying Nicaragua and the North and the main Pan American highway. You'll travel northerly for perhaps an hour until you see San Ramon where you'll turn off and you can only turn right. Keep going in much the same general direction until you get to the outskirts of town and then watch for signs saying La Fortuna, or symbols of the Volcano, In case of any concern at all please just ask directions to La Fortuna. Everyone knows it and they enjoy helping guests to their country. Just point and ask "La Fortuna?".

Once you arrive in La Fortuna you'll see an Alamo rental car outlet on the Volcano side of the town, a couple of blocks west of the Church. This is the main road which will take you to our place.

About a mile out of town you'll see a supermarket on the left which might be a good place to stock up on things you may need. Then continue your journey in the same direction passing Las Lagos, Baldi and then, a little later, a small bridge with a large sign on the right saying Volcano Lodge. Just a little bit more and there is a long natural rock fence and our property is at the end of that fence so slow down and prepare to turn. A sharp left will take you under the archway and then you park wherever you want. Someone will be there to greet you very soon. The large home you see in front of you is yours. If we don't see you right away just make yourselves at home because we'll be around somewhere. Our coordinates are

10.5019° N, 84.6914° W

If you're coming from Liberia turn right at the main Pan American highway until you reach Canas and then go left along the main road there. There should be lots of signs and if you are at all unsure please don't hesitate to ask. There is a bit of a tricky turn once you're in Tilaran so be careful there. Otherwise just ask as the people are very friendly and enjoy getting involved.

Once you pass the town of Arenal you'll eventually come to a dam and we're about 10-15 minutes from there. You'll soon see Tabacon Resort and then, on your left, Montana del Fuego and Paraiso Resort. Then slow down because you'll see a sign saying Posada Colonial on the right, which is us. Park anywhere and we'll be watching for you. If we don't see you right away just make yourselves at home because we'll be around somewhere.

Wishing you all a pleasant and safe journey.

Getting around

I usually advise tourists to rent an automobile if possible ( a 4x4 is not necessary) but buses, taxis, shuttles, etc. are readily available.
