Cancun International airport has car rentals. There are also transportation vans that can be hired. Costs there are higher than pre-arranged transportation. On the other hand, quality private transportation is less expensive, but they must be paid in cash.

Recommend to bring dollars or get Mexican pesos at ATMs (these are available almost anywhere). ATMs banks charge anywhere around MN$80 pesos plus the charges by your bank.
