How to get there
A vehicle is virtually essential to get to the cabin. If bringing your own there is parking outside the cabin for 2 small cars, or 1 larger vehicle, with additional parking at the top of the site.
There are trains to Windermere, which is about 12 km from the cabin. Then you can take a taxi or bus from right outside the train station. A taxi is recommended as the bus stop at Skelwith bridge is around 1/4 km from the cabin, up a steep hill. If catching the bus, you have to change at Ambleside, and then get another bus to Skelwith Bridge.

Getting around
The best way to take advantage of the local scenery and area is by foot. The lodge is on a footpath and there are well maintained footpaths around Loughrigg Tarn, and walking routes to Rydal, Chapel Stile, Elterwater, Grasmere and Ambleside, all less than 6 km away. There is an hourly bus at the bottom of the hill at Skelwith Bridge that goes into the Langdale Valley or into Ambleside. From Ambleside there are further bus routes available. A car is advisable if walking is not an option or you wanted to explore further afield.
