Whales & Waves is located in Kertasari area, on the west coast of Sumbawa. It is 2.5 hours drive from Airport Sumbawa Besar and 1 hour drive from Pototano Ferry Terminal. The nearest city is Taliwang which is 20 minutes drive and has ATMs, shops, flight ticket office and hospital.

HOW TO GET HERE

Option 1: Fly from Bali (Denpasar (DPS) for 50 minutes to Sumbawa Besar (SWQ), NOT BIMA! Choose Lion Air (which has one short stop in Lombok) or Trans Nusa (direct). We will provide an Airport shuttle for a cost of US$50, which will take approximately 2.5 hours.

Option 2: Fly to Lombok International Airport (LOP), taxi to Kayangan Port, ride the public ferry to West Sumbawa Pototano Port. For a cost of US$40 we provide the transfer to Whales & Waves, taking 1 hour.

(Please note that sometimes there can be issues with purchasing online domestic flight tickets using credit card. We recommend purchasing from a ticket office in Bali)

Option 3: For those who wish to rent their own car or motor bike and drive from Bali to Whales & Waves, it is possible. Drive to the port town of Padang Bai on the east coast of Bali, take the public ferry to Lembar in Lombok (4.5 hour crossing time), drive across Lombok to Kayangan Port (2 hours), then take the public ferry from Kayangan to Pototano Sumbawa (1.5 hour crossing time), drive from Pototano to Taliwang where you will turn off heading toward and through Kertasari. There you will find Whales & Waves which is also on Google maps. Allow 11-13 hours for this journey. You can sleep on some ferries.

TIPS FOR TRAVELLERS

Ferries run approximately every hour.

Make sure you have your International Driver’s Licence and enough money to pay for crossings.
