You can get a taxi transfer to Colonia for around 50 euros, but to really explore the Island, and all the area has to offer, we recommend a hire car. Most of the airlines offer a discounted deal with set partners such as Europe Car, but many of the local companies such as Record Go, and Gold-car offer much cheaper deals. Local companies will charge you for a full tank of fuel as well as the rental fee, but you can take the car back empty, and avoid fuel checks as you have already paid for the full tank at the time of rental Gold Car also offer a 'relax' insurance which is about £30 a week which insures against the excess, so there is no need to pay a deposit or worry about scratching or damaging the car. Gold-car's website is http://www.goldcar.es/en/
The Journey to Colonia, will take you across the Island, and is a chance to take in much of the Islands unspoilt beautiful countryside, and original villages.
