How to get there
You can travel by train to Oxenholme and take a taxi to the cottage. However, there is no public transport to Old Hutton, so a car is really necessary. You can take the odd taxi trip into Kendal if you want a night out without the car, but a car is needed to do your shopping and to explore the delightful local area.
You can visit the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales or the seaside at Arnside. Kendal offer the K-Shopping Village, with lovely discounted outlets, as well as museums, galleries, bars, restaurants and a wide variety of shops. KENDAL was placed at number 2 in the Sunday Times Top 100 Places to Live in the UK (March 2013) so it's definitely worth a visit and is just a 10-minute drive from this lovely cottage.
The train station at Oxenholme is useful if you would like a day trip to Edinburgh, or south to Blackpool to enjoy the Pleasure Beach.
By car, you can visit Lake Windermere, Hawkshead, Grizedale Forest (with a Go-Ape course) or venture into the Yorkshire Dales and visit the lovely quaint village of Dent, or Ithe waterfalls and caves at Ingleton. Kirkby Lonsdale is worth a visit, as are many of the other local towns. Contact the owner for ideas for days out, if you wish.
It's easy to drive to the cottage as the M6 is very close. Once there, you can snuggle by the wood-burning stove or enjoy an outdoor fire in the lovely garden. We have a barbeque and garden furniture. However, if you prefer to stay indoors, we have books and games for you to enjoy. There is also an I-Pod / CD deck, and ALL bedrooms and the sitting-room have a TV/DVD player.
Come to Holmescales Cottage and relax. It's a lovely environment where you can enjoy perfect peace - or walk down the lane to go horse-riding, quad biking, clay-pigeon shooting - or venture further afield and enjoy the delights of the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.
Kendal offers golf courses, as does Windermere. You can play tennis locally, or enjoy water-sports on Lake Windermere. Recent guests have enjoyed the Kendal Climbing Centre, and have even swum in the river down the lane, just 10 minutes walk away. However, this is only recommended in extremely warm weather !
