How to get there
Rookhope is about 1 hour by car from Newcastle or Sunderland and 35 minutes from Durham via the A689. You can also reach us in 30 minutes drive from the Penrith of the M6 following the A686 via Alston, then the A689 to Eastgate.
Travelling from the A1, go through Stanhope and continue west on the A689 for approximately two miles until reaching the village of Eastgate, at the Cross Keys public house turn right, signposted for Rookhope, and travel for approximately four miles.
Drive up to the village from Eastgate and before reaching the Pub, at the sharp left hand bend, turn right onto a farm track marked Hylton Terrace, follow the track up the hill and bear right at the first opportunity following the lane to the rear of the properties. Travel along the terrace to the end following the lane around the property and the driveway is located straight ahead.
BUSES - Rookhope itself is quite remote though there is one bus service, the 102 running from the village to Stanhope via Eastgate (Timetable). From there there are connecting services to Crook, Durham and Newcastle.
RAIL – Northern Rail operates a service to Bishop Auckland, the nearest point on the national rail network, which connects with the East Coast services at Darlington. The Weardale Railway lines connect at Bishop Auckland and run up to Eastgate. This privately operated service has had a fitful history since its official closure as an industrial line, and currently runs weekend services in season.
