If you are coming to Riverside8On12 from Colombo or the airport in the morning, it is well worth the effort to include a detour to visit the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage. It is close too half-way on the trip and an excellent place for brunch/lunch or just a drink while watching the elephants bathe in the river. An alternative stop on this trip is the Ambepussa Rest House for a more substantial meal. Don't forget to watch the flute player in his tree house.
