How to get there
Nearest airports are Florence or Pisa.In either case a car is necessary to drive to the apartment as it is located between Florence and Siena. If you intend to visit this area a rental car is mandatory. The train service from Certaldo to Florence or Siena is very good as this takes out the driving/parking problems in both those cities and it isn't expensive.

Getting around
A car is definitely required. San Gimignano,Montaione and Gambassi Terme are about 20 minutes drive, Volterra about 35. Siena ,Pisa and Florence can be reached in about an hours drive. To avoid parking problems in Siena and Florence I usually take a train from the station in Certaldo which is about 25 minutes drive. Free parking all day near the station makes it an easier option than driving. The train fares are not expensive. San Gimignano can be extremely busy especially on weekends-so to get a car park ( there are 3 pay car parks with signs displaying availability) - I suggest you arrive early.
