Accessing by road from the south: M6 J34 is 13 miles away; from the north: M6 J36 is 8 miles away; from the east: take the A65 (Kendal direction) to Cowan Bridge.
By public transport: By train from the east to Settle station, then bus 581 to Cowan Bridge. By train from the south to Lancaster Station, then bus 81B to Kirkby Lonsdale, change to bus 581 for Cowan Bridge or, taxi (30 minutes) from Lancaster station to Cowan Bridge. By train from the north to Oxenholme station then taxi (16 minutes) to Cowan Bridge.

Getting around
Having a car is the easiest way to get around but there is a local bus (No.581) takes you from Cowan Bridge to Kirkby Lonsdale to the west or Ingleton and Settle to the east. And then you can take a ride on the famous Settle to Carlisle railway line: one of the most beautiful rail journeys in the country (personally I would recommend the Settle to Appleby stretch as the best).
