How to get there

By car

Two alternative driving routes are possible from the south. Via Glasgow, taking the scenic A82 by Loch Lomond, through Glen Coe and Fort William and on to Invergarry. Alternatively, from the east of the country from Edinburgh take the M90/A9 after the Forth Road Bridge. Continue past Perth following signs for Inverness until Dalwhinnie. Here take the A889 then the A86 to Spean Bridge where a right turn on to the A82 meets the route from Glasgow. From Invergarry, take the A87 which passes Eilean Donan Castle and on to the Skye Bridge. After crossing the bridge continue on the A87 through Broadford and on to Sligachan. Take the left turn on to the A863 signposted for Dunvegan. After about 6 miles take the left turn for Carbost on the B8009, continue on the single track road through the village, past the Talisker distillery and up the steep hill. After turning the sharp right hand bend at the top of the hill, Calath is the fifth house on the right hand side of the road. Calath is 225 miles from Glasgow and 235 from Edinburgh.

It's possible to get to Skye via the Mallaig-Armadale ferry. After leaving the ferry travel up the A851 towards Broadford and on to Sligachan then turn left on to A863 signposted for Dunvegan. After about 6 miles take the left turn for Carbost on the B8009.

From Easter to October you can take a small car ferry from Glenelg on the mainland to Kylerhea on Skye. This is a slower route but one which offers the most romantic way to reach Skye.

There are two different train routes to Skye, via Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh, or from Fort William to Mallaig). Both journeys offer beautiful scenery and you will arrive relaxed and ready to continue your journey to Calath.

The nearest airport to Skye is at Inverness, roughly a two and a half hour drive away. Inverness is served by carriers from all over the UK, and car rental is available at the airport.
