Scheduled airlines include British Airways and Bulgaria Air, and low cost airlines such as Wizz Air (from Luton) and Easyjet (from Gatwick or Manchester) now provide an all year round direct flight service.
In addition numerous flag carrier airlines such as Lufthansa, Air France and Austrian Airlines provide an indirect service via their hubs in their respective home countries.
Charter airlines such as Balkan Holidays, First Choice, Thomas Cook and Monarch Airlines add their schedules in the winter season providing low cost one or two week periods of stay, often with flight only or flight and transfer options.
The flight time takes approximately 3 hours from the UK and Ireland into Sofia or Plovdiv airports, upon arrival the distance is 160km to Bansko from Sofia and 140km to Bansko from Plovdiv.
We can organise a transfer between airport and resort (additional cost) or put you in touch with a number of companies who do transfers.
If a transfer is not included or pre-booked then the choice to get to Bansko is either by Hire Car, Taxi or Bus.
Hire Car – There are many hire car companies to rent a car for the duration of your holiday. Most are cheaper if pre-booked from your departure country and all will provide and airport pick up and drop off service.
Taxi – Taxis are easily found at both Sofia and Plovdiv airports. Taxis and required by law to give you a printed receipt for the fare but if travelling over longer distances it is advisable to agree a fare before getting into the taxi.
Bus – There are up to fifteen bus services per day operating from the Central and Ovcha Kupel Bus Stations in Sofia to Bansko. Most of these buses are passing through Bansko and have destinations such as Gotse Delchev, Ognaianovo and Banya. The journey to Bansko normally takes around 3 - 3.5 hours travelling time but the cost is only 13-14 Leva.
From Plovdiv, the bus service is not so good with only three bus services per day. Again the journey takes 3 - 3.5 hours.
