How to get there

The best route is through the New Forest to Leamington, and then Wightlink ferry to Yarmouth. The scenery through the New Forest is stunning, and you arrive on the island a few minutes from the cottage.

Alternative ferry crossings are Southampton to Cowes (Red Funnel) and Portsmouth to Fishbourne (Wightlink).

As you leave Yarmouth ferry terminal, turn right on the main roundabout and and cross the bridge over the River Yar.

Follow the main road as it bears left 90 degrees.

After about 400m turn right, following the brown sign to 'Fort Victoria Country Park'.

Continue over a small bridge, past some bungalows and over a hill, at the bottom of which the road bends left.

100m after this bend there is a dirt track to the left which leads to the cottage car park.

Getting around

The cottage is a 3-4 minute drive (or 15 minute walk) along the coast from the historical harbour town of Yarmouth, the arrival point for the car ferry from Lymington in the New Forest. If you don't want to bring a car, there is a very good bus network all over the island, a regular bus stop at the end of the road, and a request stop at the fort. You can also rent bikes at the old train station next to the river in Yarmouth. If you like walking the whole area is a paradise. The 15 minute walk to Yarmouth runs along the beach and coastal pathway to the edge of the harbour (Sandhart Beach), which you can either walk around, or take the £1.50 harbour water taxi straight into town.
