How to get there
Les Iris is based in Drouzin le Mont in the Haute Savoie region of the French Alps. Located on the edge of the Portes du Soleil, one of the largest linked ski areas in the world with over 650km of prepared pistes, and in between the Chatel and Morzine Valleys.
The closest airport is Geneva. The drive from Geneva airport is about an hour although if you hit the rush-hour it will add about 15 minutes to your journey time.
If you are planning a trip by train, the German train website is very good for planning international train travel: http://www.bahn.de/ or you can try http://www.raileurope.co.uk/
For those who prefer to fly and collect a car at the airport: There are numerous car rental companies in the Swiss and French sides of Geneva airport. When hiring a car I suggest using Holidayautos which I found to offer consistently good value.
The car insurance is the same whatever side you get the car from and is valid in the EU and Switzerland. It is cheaper to get the the excess waver online than at the airport (excess is usually €750 – but check the small print). If you are going for a longer period and the excess waver fee/cost is going to be more than €50, then you can get a separate insurance that cover any hire car excess for a year for the same price. The company we use is insurance4carhire.
