How to get there

Low-cost airlines like Ryanair and Easyjet fly regularly to Malta from a number of destinations, including the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, France, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Poland among others. AIr Malta, Malta's national airline, flies from nearly all countries within the European Union.

Malta is also linked to mainland Europe by high speed catamaran from South East Sicilian port of Pozzallo, within the province of Ragusa. The trip takes around one hour and forty five minutes.

Travelling within Malta can be done either by the extensive and cheap public transport system operated by Arriva (www.arriva.com.mt) or else by using a hired car. The public bus service is a cheap way to explore the Maltese islands.

If you opt to use the bus service, you will be pleasantly surprised to note that a weekly ticket allows you to enjoy unlimited trips throughout Malta and Gozo. The bus service commences early in the morning and continues til late into the evening all days of the week serving a multitude of destinations. Please refer to the Arriva website for full details.

A hired car offers more flexibility to go around the islands. Boarding the Gozo channel ferry to get to the island of Gozo by car is also very easy, with the ferry company, Gozo Channel (www.gozochannel.com) , operating an efficient, cheap and frequent service running on a 24-hour basis. ALthough there are quite a number of cars on the Maltese roads, driving around is quite easy bearing also in mind that, similar to the United Kingdom, driving is on the left and most vehicles are right hand drive. All road signs are in English. Most international car hire companies, as also local car hire companies, most of which offer extensive and varied fleets, are present on the island and car hire is at very reasonable rates.
