How to get there
An information pack will provide details of how to travel to the Hillview Cottage. The Cottage can be accessed by car, public transport or cycle. The journey by car takes around 2 hours from Glasgow, whether you take the ferry route or you drive all the way. The ferry over the Clyde estuary and subsequent drive is stunning, as is the drive around, past Loch Lomond, Arrochar and the top of Loch Long, along Loch Fyne then through Glen Daruel and along Loch Ridden. There are various cafes along the routes to stop for refreshments; at Gourock and Dunoon if you take the ferry route, and at Dumbarton, Tarbet, Arrochar and Strachur, if you drive round.
By public transport you take a train from Glasgow Central train station to Greenock, ferry to Dunoon, then bus, all of which interconnect, and you can ask the driver to be dropped off on the road above the cottage, where a path will lead you down. Please ask for details.
The information pack will also provide locations of amazing hidden beaches, excellent places to eat and have coffee and cake, etc
Please note that the last 200 metres of track to the cottage is quite steep and bumpy at a couple of points and will not suit some vehicles, especially low ground clearance cars, although we always manage with our front wheel road car. A safe and secluded lay-by parking lies at the entrance to the last 200 metres. Full information will be provided in our courtesy call and within the information package.
