How to get there

I will not tell you how to get to Angouleme as I am sure you have your favourite way from whichever port you decide to use. If you decide to come via Paris that’s fine if you can handle the traffic. We think the best route is via Rouen, Le Mans, Tours, Poitiers and to Angouleme It should take you about 6 to 7 hours.

There is a great mapping program that I find is better than any other. It is or of course you can use Google Maps

From Angouleme to the villa

Along N10 until you reach the La Couronne exit which is slightly north east of Angouleme – you will see the Centre Commercial sign also. Follow the Centre Commercial signs towards the Auchan Hypermarket car park. If you are coming from Bordeaux you are on the right side if you are travelling from the north you will cross back over the N10.

Leave Auchan at the far end of the car park just past the petrol station. At the small roundabout straight on, under the bridge and left at the T junction. Join onto the road from the left and head towards Angouleme. Straight over several small roundabouts until you come to a large roundabout with hospital Girac on the left.

At this roundabout take the first exit ( immediately you get on the roundabout ) towards Puymoyen. Right hand bend and up quite a steep hill, straight across first roudabout and take the Puymoyen ( 2nd exit ) on second roundabout.

Through retail/industrial units and up hill with some nice houses on both sides.Through traffic lights in Puymoyen centre ( white post office on left ), carry on out of Puymoyen and at the cross roads turn right towards Torsac. Carry on along the country lane and when you arrive at Torsac you bear left then right, continuing to follow the same road, bypass Torsac centre and head towards Ronsenac. After several miles you pass a large ( abandoned ) Chateau on left ( La Mercerie ) – straight across at junction onto a very narrow stretch of road at first with houses on the corner. Continue along until you arrive at a T junction – turn left into Ronsenac.

Just past the centre of Ronsenac you need to turn right towards Gurat, past tennis court on right, then left hand bend and then off along another country lane. Follow road for several miles ( over a small cross roads part way along ) and at the T junction turn right into Gurat.

Through Gurat and on the way out the other side turn left opposite small garage onto the D 102 towards Vendoire. Over little bridge ( river Nizonne ) continue along D102 ( ignore right hand fork towards Site de Tourbier ), half a mile sharp right hand bend by farmhouse, continue past large house on right and Le Verger is next turn on left.

From Bergerac airport – by far our nearest;

From the airport follow the signs to Bergerac going over the river, you will then be on the N21 signposted Perigueux. There is a left turn on the outskirts of the town clearly marked A89 to Mussidan. It is sometimes marked D709. Follow this road through town be careful as it does a left and right turn in town. After about 7 or 8 kms of rough road you will reach a brand new highway. After about 10Klms you will come to a roundabout were the options are to go to the motorway or left into Mussidan. ( you can actually see the toll booth of the motorway on your right)Take left off the roundabout signed posted D709 Mussidan

Entering the town of Mussidan you will come to a T junction – turn right through the centre of the town

At the foot of the town there are traffic lights proceed straight on over the river. Follow the D709 to Riberac about 22 klms

Go straight thru the town of Riberac and proceed on the main road to Verteillac Go into Verteillac and at the bottom of the village leave the main road and go to a road with an estate agent on the corner and marked St Martial De Viveyrol Keep right and after 1 Klm take the right fork (St Martial is the left) and proceed on the D1 and then the D101. Quite a twisty road, pass La Chapelle Gresignac on right, straight over a cross roads and then up hill for less than 1km, turn left to Vendoire. Straight through Vendoire on D102, sharp right and left bends by Chateau, continue along the road for a further 1km and Le Verger is on the right.

You will I am sure have your favourite ferry but you may wish to consider speed ferries. This is a fast ferry Dover to Boulogne About 1 hour service and excellent clean facilities. Usually very good pricing.

If you are coming into Angouleme or Bordeaux please ask for directions.
