How to get there
Vanato is one of many little villages in this region where not much happens in this part of the island apart from farming & church gatherings whilst just a few kilometres away is the bustling resort of Tsilivi which has numerous cafe bars, tavernas & lots of shops along it's main road which is less than a kilometre from it's lovely wide long "Blue Flag" beach of Tsilivi where there are more seaside bars & watersports. It's a lively area if you fancy a bit of life whilst only a short drive to the far north or south from Vanato where the lifestyle changes tempo to a more low key laid back rhythm.
Just a 10min drive from Vanato the lovely hilltop area of Bohali is a must, by day or night, where the view of Zakynthos town or Hora as the locals call it, is just magnificent. If you are lucky & happen to be on the hill at Bohali when a christening or wedding is taking place, hundreds of white lights on the edges of the church are turned on & you get to observe all the fuss of the locals whilst sipping your drink at one of the cafes.
A trip into Zakynthos town is also worth the trip either by day to get the hustle & bustle of the locals or during the evening take a romantic stroll along the promonade at the seaside and head towards the Solomos Square which is pedestrianised & has several tavernas where locals eat & drink whilst the young play in the square. The back streets of Solomos Sq where there are several cafes are also buzzing with atmosphere with locals.
