How to get there

Travelling by vehicle from the mainland, you will need to book a car ferry to the Island. A car is convenient, but not essential. There is also a National Express coach stop called PORTSMOUTH HARD for eco-sensitive travellers, then Fast-cat ferry, and an excellent bus service on the island into and out of Newport terminus. When your email address is released to us after the balance of your holiday has been paid we will send a WELCOME PACK that includes booking details. Note also that 50p of TESCO vouchers currently buy £1 of Wightlink travel, and that Blue Badge disabled drivers booking their ferry directly can obtain a 20% discount.

CAR FERRY CHOICES:

RED FUNNEL car ferry (Southampton to East Cowes)

We have negotiated very special rates for holiday guests with Red Funnel, which are the cheapest options for travelling to the island by car.

WIGHTLINK car and passenger ferry (Lymington to Yarmouth)

This is our nearest ferry terminal, easily accessed by car (or train to ‘Lymington Pier’ station). Cars with roof racks, trailers, or bikes, and foot passengers with/without bikes are all accommodated. The last ferry is 20:05.

WIGHTLINK car and passenger ferry (Portsmouth to Fishbourne)

If you approach the IOW by car from the south east, or the A3/M3 this is an excellent choice. Both Gunwarf Quay and the Historic dockyard have car parks that can be used long-term if you choose to leave your car on the mainland, particularly for a short break. Book parking with your ferry. Ferries run all night.

Let us book it for you with a 20% discount. With WIGHTLINK you can always arrive by one ferry route and return by the other.

TIPS

Arriving at Yarmouth from Lymington you will be only 6-minutes drive from the bungalow, and if travelling via M27 Jct.2/A326 you pass through the New Forest full of ponies and Beaulieu Abbey, so book a later 4pm cheaper rate ferry and linger on the way. The Walhampton Arms is 5-minutes from the Lymington ferry and is open from 6pm foe a carvery on the homeward journey.

Travelling Portsmouth to Fishbourne it’s a 1/2 hour drive across the island, but there are activities to explore such as PORTSMOUTH HISTORIC DOCKYARD if you choose to arrive early, or a meal at The Fishbourne Pub by the ferry terminal on the way home and wish to miss rush hour traffic.
