Description from owner

My Manilva Apartment is a fully air conditioned bright and airy TWO bedroom apartment in the heart of a real Spanish village. it is a home from home with the benefit of a communal full sized pool and kiddies pool.My Manilva apartment is my bolt-hole and escape from my hectic show-business journalist everyday life. It's sunshine, serenity and a flavour of real Spain just 5 minutes from the coast. Manilva is a picture postcard, traditional Spanish whitewashed village, steeped in history and home to the famous Manilva dessert vineyards. It is an ideal base for families with beaches, water parks, safari parks and playgrounds all close by. For wanting to explore the magic of Andalusia it also provides a perfect location.Only an hour from Malaga airport or twenty five minutes from Gibraltar, my Manilva apartment gives you access to the Costa's whilst experiencing authentic Spain.

The apartment is very well equipped with everything you want from a home from home.

The Andalucia region

Manilva is in the heart of Andalusia, Spain's Southern region, steeped in history and culture. Along with Seville and Granada, here are a few other places to whet your appetite.......

Gibraltar is only about 20 mins drive away, turn right at the Sabinillas roundabout and keep going on the A7 until the La Linea junction – Gibraltar is eventually signposted! You need your passport and English money.

Tangier is only a 40 minute ferry ride away. Costa Africa (info in drawer) run a guided tour which is very good.

Ronda is stunning and one heck of a drive (mountain bends, no barriers, sheer drops) or you can take the train from San Roque (carry on past La Linea and take the CARTEMEL junction for Estacion San Roque) – a terrific journey.

Casares – literally 12 kilometres up the hill from Manilva and very very pretty – c castle at the top has a lovely café in the shaded garden, stunning views.

Gaucin another 12 kilometres after Casares, a mountain top whitewashed artists village which is stunning and a beautiful drive up there.

Genalguacil - This is one white Andalucian mountain village that art lovers will not want to miss. Every year during the first two weeks in August there is an art festival in Genalguacil called “Los Encuentros de Arte del Valle del Genal” and prize winning works of art are put on permanent public display throughout the town afterwards. This is probably the most outstanding feature of this typical Andalusian village. Visitors come from all over to wander the narrow streets and charming plazas in search of artistic treasures.

Genalguacil is surrounded by greenery next to the Sierra Bermeja Nature Area and one of the only pinsapo pine forests in Spain.

Jerez – very strongly recommend a visit here. It takes 1 ½ hrs – take the A7 towards Algeciras, just before Algeciras there is a turning to the A318 to Jerez – the drive is through a national park so very beautiful. The bodegas, Gonzalez Byass, Sandeman's Domencq etc all do tours in the mornings.

Manilva, one the last untouched 'white' villages of Andalusia. An hour from Malaga, twenty minutes from Gibraltar, Manilva is the first of three stunning mountain villages that includes castle topped Casares and the artists colony of Gaucin.

Set back from the coast by about 3km, high on the hill, Manilva has almost been untouched by tourism. There are few bars and restaurants, no discos, no nightclubs. There is however, a wonderful party atmosphere as the people of village like any excuse to have a fiesta!

The main hub of the village is embraced by a magnificent vineyard of Muscatel Grapes. These produce a terrific dessert wine that is famous throughout Spain. This provides me with a dilemma each year - there is a big wine festival in Manilva on the first weekend in September.

At Easter, the whole village takes to the streets for the parades. Then there's the international festival with visitors from as far away as Peru and China, stalls, music and dancing and of course wine.

There are a few shops including a pharmacy and opticians and a bank and several food stores. Each morning, the villagers all meet at the shops and each evening, in the bars that serve local tapas – ham, cheese, tomatoes.

Nearby there are some Roman ruins - two pieces of aqueduct in very good state, one of which can actually be walked over. There is also a Roman bath that is still used to this day. Spanish people travel from miles around to bathe in the white, Sulphur waters. The idea is you take a dip in the nearby stream, coat yourself in the sulphur rich mud, bake in the sun until it dries and then wash it off in the Roman bath.

My Manilva is home from home – 60% of the people in apartment complex are Spanish and the rest English
