Location description from manager

The North Wales region

This detached holiday cottage is located in the small, rural hamlet of Llanymawddwy in Snowdonia and enjoys beautiful, open views across fields and mountains. Close to the foot of Aran Fawddwy, the highest mountain in Southern Snowdonia and near the highest pass in Wales which leads to Vyrnwy and Bala lakes with their wide range of watersports.

Dinas Mawddwy (4 miles) offers a lovely village pub / restaurant along with a Visitor shop/café. A further 2 miles brings you to the village of Mallwyd with a small grocery shop/Post office/Garage for fuel. At the other side of the highest pass in Wales, there is also another highly recommended pub / restaurant at Tafarn yr Eagles Inn, Llanuwchllyn near Bala (8.5 miles).

Maesmor holiday cottage is also central to three beautiful market towns; Dolgellau (13 miles), Bala (14 miles) and Machynlleth (17 miles). They are all worth a visit and offer a good range of shops and plenty of good restaurants, including 'Y Meirionnydd' in Dolgellau, 'Number Twenty One' in Machynlleth, 'Cross Foxes' and 'Bwyty Mawddach', both near Dolgellau. There is also a lovely café that offers free wifi at Dolgellau, called T.H.Roberts, Parliament House.

Amongst the range of things to do during your stay at Maesmor, the mountain walk over Aran Fawddwy is highly recommended – with the added bonus of having a village pub to welcome you at both ends. If you enjoy walking, Aran Benllyn and Cadair Idris also offer popular mountain walks. For a more relaxing day out, sit back and enjoy the views on Bala Lake Railway or the narrow gauge railway at Talyllyn.

Other recommended days out include the RSPB Centre at Lake Vyrnwy, the Centre for Alternative Technology, Coed-y-Brenin mountain biking centre and Go Ape's tree top adventures. The Dyfi Osprey Project and the Museum of Modern Art in Machynlleth are also worth a visit and if you have time, travel the Cambrian Coast Railway from Machynlleth to Pwllheli – one of the most scenic railway routes in the world.
