Description from owner

Description

The house is situated on a big, private and calm property without any neighbours and a spectacular view on Mont Ventoux over fields, forest tree-lined rivers and fruit trees, and yet it is not far from Avignon TGV (45') and Marseilles Airport (1h20'). The village with all amenities is not even 2 miles away and offers the greatest number of Cafés and restaurants.

The region is known for its magnificent wines and, beyond doubt, famous for cycling and hiking,
The big pool, hidden in landscaped extensive gardens, offers the same splendid views, even while swimming.
The vacation home is furnished with nice antiques, very comfortable and gives you the feeling, as if you stepped into your own country home.

A patio with fountain and potted plants invites you to long evenings dining and chatting. You will never run out of famous places to visit, all nearby: Orange, Avignon, Arles, Aix en Provence etc., or the nearby Vaison la Romaine.

Further details indoors

Each storey has a WC; the kitchen and the sitting room have an open fireplace. The groundfloor has a great cellar for wine storing, cut into the rock; hidden in there are fridge, freezer and washing machine, not to disturb the beautiful country kitchen. The sitting room is furnished with comfortable Voltaires, a Love seat, 19th century crapauds and a Marie Antoinette, all arranged around a 17th century fireplace. The dining room is very spacious and opens up to a full view of the big courtyard with a plane and a linden tree and beyond on Mont Ventoux.
The bedrooms are spacious, feature old French armoires, a bed with canopy, walk-in closets, lovely curtains, very nice linen and are decorated with care. The second floor bathroom has a shower plus bathtub, built-in cupboards with two basins.

Further details outdoors

The pool has a shaded and a sunny area, furnished with sunchairs, and is enclosed in a green screen of bushes and trees for total privacy. You walk through flowered gardens, rosebushes and hedges to reach the even there spectacular view on the mountain.

The Provence region

The property is set in the Roman part and the papal part of Provence, when the Popes ruled in Avignon. Vaison la Romaine is 10' away and offers extensive Roman excavations, a Roman Theatre, Museum and a famous Roman bridge which withstood the disastrous flooding of 1992!

From here you bike up Mont Ventoux, passing the Grozeau, a source already used by the Romans to feed Vaison la Romaine with drinking water, and still used today for the village of Malaucène. From Mont Ventoux you pass down to Sault with its extensive lavender fields and gorgeous views on the mountains of the nearby Drôme and over the Rhône valley.

All major sites of Provence are in easy reach for daily excursions.

Malaucene

Malaucène is a village of about 2500 inhabitants with a medieval part and a famous historic monument, the Romanesque church. To flee the heat of summer, the popes in Avignon had a now destroyed summer seat at the source Le Grozeau, just before one gets up Mont Ventoux.

All towns and villages in Provence have colourful weekly markets where you find everything. So has Malaucène. Nearby Vaison la Romaine and Carpentras provide even bigger markets.

The Roman amphitheatre in Orange is the setting for a world famous opera Festival in July and August,; the Roman smaller amphitheatre in Vaison la Romaine invites you in July to spectacular dance performances; Aix en Provence with its new opera house offers a great variety of stagings all summer. In the vineyards, in chapels or on squares, music and theatre are performed.
