Malaga: Fiestas and Folklore
Malaga is an extraordinarily lively town, and the visitor will certainly find here anything he expects to find in Andalusia. Among the most attractive events during a year are the following:

On January, 6th the procession of the three Magi, an event specially appreciated by children.

Easter-Week is celebrated in Malaga, as in most of the large Andalusian towns, with impressive religious processions. Remarkable are specially the processions of Señor de los Gitanos on Monday and of Nuestro Padre Jesus el Rico on Wednesday.

The celebrations of Corpus Christi, in May, are most beautiful in the little village of Casabermeja close to Malaga. All the village is decorated with flowers, and the festivities take four days.

During the third week of August there is the traditional Feria de Verano, with Flamenco-music, people in regional dresses and an exposition of the most beautiful horses.

The final festivity of the year is the Fiesta Mayor de Verdiales on December 28 (April Fool's Day in Spain). Verdiales is a kind of Flamenco music which is typical for the province of Malaga. Basically, this festival is a contest of dance and song with groups from many of the villages around participating. However, the contest just serves as an excuse for a great party which will go on all night long - good music, good food and of course a lot of wine.

“Comfortable and clean accommodation in a convenient but peaceful location”

The apartment is in a quiet residential area in the eastern part of Malaga, about 10 minutes walk to the seafront where there are plenty of Spanish bars and restaurants and a pleasant promenade. On arrival we were met by the owner Enrique who was very helpful and explained all the facilities to us, although his English is a bit limited. As a group of 4 mature adults we were having a winter sightseeing break and found the location of the apartment to be ideal, and it was clean, comfortable and well equipped. There is one double bedroom, one twin bedroom, and one single bedroom on the upper floor, and the beds were very comfortable. There is also a sofa bed in the lounge which would be okay for a child. However, the description of the bathrooms is a bit misleading - there is one family bathroom next to the bedrooms and also a toilet/sink downstairs. The kitchen is well equipped, the only thing missing was a kettle so we had to boil water in a pan. We didn't spend much time in the lounge as we were out most of the time, but if you are staying in it may be worth bringing some DVDs to play as the TV only showed Spanish programmes. The balcony was the nicest place to sit and watch the view. The communal pool is near the back of the property and looked very inviting. However it is not heated and therefore closed during the winter months. You won't see many English visitors in this part of Malaga so a few words of Spanish will be very useful. If you have a car it is only a short drive to the ring road, which means you can get around the region easily without driving through the city. Cordoba, Granada, Gibraltar, Nerja are all within easy driving distance and well worth visiting. If you don't have a car it is only a 5 minute walk to the bus stop where there is a very good bus service into the city centre (fare 1.20 euros), and there is plenty of interest to see in this city including the castle, alcazabar, cathedral and some excellent shops and restaurants. Although the weather was not suitable for sunbathing we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and I would recommend this apartment to anybody who wants to stay in an area of Malaga with a more traditional Spanish atmosphere.

When we arrived at the apartment we were met by Enrique (the owner) who explained everything to us, he was very welcoming and friendly. The apartment was spacious and had enough room to sleep six people - a double room, a twin room, a single room & a sofa bed. The kitchen had everything you need to cook and clean. When at the apartment we spent most of our time on the lovely balcony that had a large table, perfect for relaxing with a drink or eating a home cooked meal. The balcony was private and looked out onto the road. The communal pool was larger than anticipated which was a nice surprise, the local residents were friendly and not too noisy, there were never more than about 15 people by the pool at any one time. There was access to WiFi 24/7 and a Tv in the living room with a dvd player. The location of this apartment was perfect. It is a 5 minute walk to a bus stop that takes you straight to Malaga central (1euro20). The beach and supermarket is about a 10 minute walk away. Along the local beach there are many nice restaurants and bars, they get lively around 10pm and the atmosphere was great. The clubs and shops in Malaga were also very good, when returning to the apartment after 11pm from Malaga it was necessary to get a taxi which cost around 12 euros. We all enjoyed our holiday very much and the location and price was perfect for us (a group of 6 18 year olds). We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone!
