Inspired by local architect Konstantinos Korakakis the villa - in its own one acre plot of gardens, olive trees and natural landscape - is designed to be in 'tune' with the local surroundings. Its location, overlooking the sea with mountain views does exactly that. For eating out there are plenty of good quality Tavernas nearby. For getting out and about there are private beaches, sandy beaches, gorge walks, off-road trails, quad biking, mountain biking, Minoan settlements - all can be arranged and are available within the area. With a living are of 200sqm there is a genuine feeling of space and good living. Obviously the outdoors is where you will want to be and here you will find plenty of soft comfortable seating, sunbeds, shade umbrellas

Location description from owner
The Lasithi Prefecture region
This is a tourist spot that is hardly touched by the package holiday trade as the aim is to protect the local culture and prevent large scale development. It is unpretentious, charming and close to nature with a special 'feel'. There are only a couple of large hotels in Makrigialos.
Due to its own micro-climate Makrigialos benefits from some of the best weather in Crete. Beaches are unspoiled. Take a drive round the nearby coast. There is a seemingly never ending succession of beautiful secluded bays and coves. Drive up into the mountains to see breath taking views of deserted sandy beaches with crystal clear water
Situated on the south east coast of Crete, Makrigialos is only 30 minutes from the local working towns of Ierapatra (south east coast) and Sitea (north west coast).
Some of the best beaches in Crete all gently lapped by crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean sea.
A mountain range runs West to East across the island which shelters the south coast and provides this fantastic climate - possibly the best in the Med.
Makrigialos produces the best olive oil, with a very high specific gravity, and is treasured by restaurants worldwide. Local produce is all of the highest quality and is available in most local restaurants, particularly lamb, fish, chicken, fruit, feat cheese, vegetables, wine and the world famous olive oil.
Makrigialos is surrounded by thousands of acres of raw, majestic, Cretan countryside and mountains.
On your doorstep:
Diaskari Beach - very quiet
Pervolakia Gorge - scenic walk with smells of the herbs
Mona Kapsa Monastery
Dragons Cave - 2 km east along the coast road, looking back towards Makrigialos and the mountain backdrop
Diaskari Taverna - on the waters edge, shaded by trees with wonderful simple fresh food.
Porphyra - Great Greek Meze and traditional Cretan food
Chrissi Island - boat trips can be arranged fro Makrigialos
Remains of a Roman villa and the Minoan Villa is within easy walking distance from the village
Island of Koufonissi is a small uninhabited island a few miles away in the Libyan sea
The Makrigialos Music Festival takes place over the last weekend in June - includes music from modern sax, to early Italian lute music, to opera and also a children's concert.

“Wonderful villa - but make sure you read "small letters"”
Villa Estia is wonderful by itself - well equipped and nicely located. We had a great holiday and fully enjoyed the surroundings, Greek people hospitality and, of course, the sun, the sea (we tried many beaches around, liked Achlia best) and local food. Make sure you visit Stavrochori, skip the Dragon Cave tavern. The best vegetables are from Antonio and Konstantina, 5 min drive from the villa (on the way to MakryGialos). As it is not really clear from the description, the 4 bedrooms upstairs accommodate 8 people in total (2 double beds in "master" bedrooms, 2 single beds in the 3rd and 1 bunk bed in the 4th). So if you are a group of 10, someone will need to sleep in the living room (there is a sofa). We were also disappointed to find out (after our departure) that cleaning fee was not included into rental price, and the fee was deducted from a deposit. This was our 7th vacation in Crete, and we never had this before. I would advise to read the villa manual thoroughly, so that nothing spoils your impression on your trip.
Thank you Galina for the positive points. Point taken with regard to any mid stay cleaning. We will amend our contract to clearly explain that a mid stay linen change is all that is included(--As stated in the information book provided). If mid stay cleaning is required, this must be arranged and paid for locally, via our agent on site.
“Lovely Villa Good Location”
The photographs on the web site do not do justice to the villa . It is very well furnished and equipped. All of the beds are very comfortable and the air con works well, This is a very high quality rental. The outside areas are well thought out so you can find shade throughout the day, and the pool is very inviting. There a plenty of good Tavernas within a 10 minute drive and very reasonably priced. The beaches offer safe swimming in very clean water and good snorkelling if you choose your location.. We will be going back
“What a holiday!!”
We were looking for a nice relaxing holiday that had sufficient activities to keep two young children happy and its safe to say, this delivered. The location itself is a few minutes away from the beach along a gravel track but with a car (which we would recommend), you are a few minutes away from several sandy beaches and friendly tavernas in Makry Gialos. We especially recommend The Olive Tree and Gambinos for their delicious food and warm welcome (you should also go to The Olive Tree's sister restaurant in Pefki if you get the chance and can stomach the drive). In addition if you do have a car you can travel around the coast to some truly magnificent mountain villages and beach resorts that we had no idea Crete offered. The sea was crystal clear and like a shallow bath, perfect to allow the kids a little more freedom in a safe environment and the beaches had sufficient space to allow you to relax without feeling encroached by your neighbours. In terms of the villa, it is very well stocked with high quality amenities making it a relaxing stay. The kitchen is fully equipped, the lounge is comfortable and has CD/DVD/Wii if you need it (which is unlikely) and there is a lovely bbq with large dining table, perfect for meals with the entire, extended family. The only things we would say to be aware of is that if you have very small children, as we did, you do need to be careful of the staircase (as it is too wide for a stair gate) and the swimming pool but the owners made this very clear to us before we booked so we knew what to expect and managed it accordingly. All in all we didn't need for anything. The people were friendly, the location had everything we needed and the villa was perfect so we would happily recommend this as a lovely holiday destination
Villa Estia is very well equipped, spacious and comfortable. The pool area and outdoor eating/relaxing spaces are particularly good. The location is very private with great views to the sea, and yet it is only a 5 minute drive from a nice town with a good variety of reasonably priced excellent restaurants. It is in a quieter part of Crete with a fantastic reputation justly deserved for lots of sunshine, and fewer tourists so it is easy to see more of local life. There are lots of interesting places to visit within easy reach. For a great holiday, just add some friends, good food and drink, and get ready to chill out!
“Beautiful and Comfortable”
Over the years, I, my wife and sometimes our extended families have rented several villas across Europe. This is by far the best equipped and most comfortable we have ever experienced. There was more than enough room for 3 generations of vTs. Martin and Sue have thought of everything. Even the wifi surpassed our expectations - they advised that streaming TV would not be possible, yet we streamed children's TV and Rugby matches from our Slingbox seamlessly all week! We really loved it. The surrounding town is not without charm either. At the opposite end of the island to Chania, Makrigialos has the charm of a town that has yet to be invaded by the great unwashed on package holidays. The local restaurants are delightful and genuinely welcome your custom without being pushy at all. This town harks back to a period before 'all inclusive' had even been invented.
“Great villa, excellent location, perfect holiday.”
Villa Estia was perfect for our party of 4 adults, 2 teenage boys and 2 young girls. The drive from Heraklion was straightforward and takes around 2 hours at a steady pace. An arrival at the villa we were pleasantly surprised at its location and the surrounding areas. It's situated far enough away from the other villas to be private but close enough to all the local amenities. The villa itself was clean and moden. Downstairs was big enough for larger party than ours and had a TV, DVD, Wii and stereo with iPhone plug-in, all very good for keeping the kids entertained. The kitchen was very well appointed and the excellent BBQ area made cooking very easy. The 2 double bedrooms upstairs were very nice, light and airy with plenty of wardrobe and draw space. The master en-suit was very nice. The 2 other bedrooms were more than adequate for the kids as well. Air conditioning throughout was a welcome relief from the heat during the day and adjusted during the night for a perfect sleep. The pool area was a big hit...the pool was a good size surrounded by excellent furniture, sun loungers, comfy outdoor sofas and chairs aplenty. The dining table was a great feature and used regularly for eating alfresco. Situated only a short drive to the local town there are numerous shops, small supermarkets and restaurants but nothing too overwhelming. The is also a good selection of beaches within easy reach, again by car. About a 45 min drive in either direction are the larger towns of Ierapetra and Sitia, both worth a visit for eating out and shopping. They also have larger supermarkets with a better selection and cheaper prices. We tried a few of the local restaurants suggested in the visitor guide folder at the villa and found them all very good, especially Dragons Cave, only a short drive from the villa and with great food and fews of the bay and mountains. All-in-all we had a fantastic holiday, the villa was perfect, the area was just right...enough to do without but away from the busy tourist areas. We would definitely recommend this property to friends, family and fellow travellers.
“Great vacations at villa Estia”
Our group of 8 +1 Baby had a great time at Villa Estia this July The villa is well furnished and equipped especially for those who like cooking We enjoyed the pool though some windy days Makrigialos is a good place to investigate the eastern part of Creta
“Well appointed villa in an excellent location with fabulous outdoor areas”
Despite arriving at the villa at 2am we found it without trouble thanks to the directions provided. In the morning we woke to the view of the Libyan Sea and explored the villa and outdoor space - we weren't disappointed! The villa is very well equipped and comfortable and the outdoor space is fantastic. The area is peaceful but it's very easy and quick to get into Makrigialos where you'll find a great selection restaurants and a fabulous beach. There are lots of other places to explore also from secluded beaches to hill top villages, gorge walks and islands.
“Beautiful villa in a friendly, peaceful area of the island.”
We had a fantastic holiday staying in Villa Estia. The local town (just a 5 minute drive) had a range of very reasonably priced tavernas and the beach was lovely with clear water and sun loungers that were free as long as you bought drinks. The villa is beautiful with fantastic views of the coastline. Both inside and out the villa was luxurious. We spent most evenings sat outside eating food cooked on the bbq. The amenities inside the villa are plentiful and the supply of basic kitchen ingredients meant that we didn't have to start from scratch in the supermarket. All in all a great place to enjoy with friends and we would definitely come again!
“beautiful villa in a lovely location”
booking, arriving and amenities excellent. anja at bay view, just up the road, was very helpful and it was lovely to have someone to call on if need be or get advice. the villa is in a valley overlooking makrygialos bay with lovely views. it is very well designed and includes just about everything you would need and the welcome pack was much appreciated. all the furniture was lovely, especially the outside areas where you can enjoy relaxing in the sun. the town is only a 5 minute drive with lots of lovely tavernas by the sea, the volley ball net there was a hit and if you bought drinks at the cafes you could make use of the sunbeds on the beach. we also loved diaskiri beach and lunch at the cafe there which was very greek. the area was quiet which was lovely and we enjoyed the gorge walks and trips out, especially to xerocambos which included a very scenic drive and lovely beach. may be an idea to take out the extra car insurance cover for underneath the car if offered as the road up to the villa is a bit bumpy. there were 7 adults in our party and there was plenty of space and everyone had a great time. thanks for a wonderful holiday - would definitely recommend a stay in this lovely villa in a great location.
