“Good location but in serious need of upgrading!”

Reviewed 27 Aug 2016

We chose this house as it was well located for our needs and close to a main line railway. That said we were disappointed in the overall condition of the house, which is not apparent from the photos. 2 of the 4 sofas in the house were broken, the upstairs TV was broken, the dining table was broken and wouldn't extend to seat 6 of us and the garden was unusable and completely overgrown. This was very unfortunate as the weather was uncharacteristically hot and we would have really enjoyed using the BBQ. We had 6 adults in our extended family group and the 3 good sized bedrooms accommodated us well. However, even though there are 2 bathrooms, the plumbing would not allow for more than one person at a time to shower or use toilets which meant it took a long time to get going in the mornings. The shower in the main bathroom did not work properly, despite much fiddling and there is only a hand held shower in the upper level en-suite. This was unacceptable and should be addressed if the property is advertised for upto 7 adults. Also the owner needs to plan better for the changing of towels and bed linens. We rented the house for 3 weeks yet there were no spare towels or sheets provided and I had to negotiate for the cleaner to provide at extra cost to me. Even then there were not enough pillow cases for the beds if you wanted more than one pillow per person which meant I had to buy extra pillow cases and kitchen tea towels (also not provided). As for the kitchen, it was reasonably well equipped and had newer appliances but the cupboards were all very tatty and the drawers so warped they wouldn't close. There was plenty of crockery and cutlery but sadly the plates were too large to fit in the dishwasher and had to be hand washed. Not a problem if tea towels are provided!! We did cook meals on a few occasions but struggled with the oven as there were no oven gloves. Again, overall we were very disappointed with the house which is a shame as it has great potential. Whilst the neighbourhood is very quiet and there is a small convenience store 10 steps away, the other deficiencies explain why there was only one, very inaccurate review to go on.

Thank you for taking the time to review our Maidenhead house. We are happy to hear that you liked our 3 good-sized bedrooms and that you found our kitchen well equipped with plenty of crockery and cutlery and with new kitchen appliances. (The dish washing machine, washing machine, cooker and fridge are all less than 12 months old). We are sad and surprised to hear of your great disappointment. We agree that the hot water was not 100 % during your stay and can only apologize again for this. We did inform you prior to your stay that we were awaiting an upgrade. We are relieved that the hot water system upgrade has now taken place to ensure great supply and pressure of hot water in both bathrooms and all taps. We also agree that the lower part of our very long garden needed a trim but our BBQ area (gravelled stone) with patio furniture was perfectly fine to use - it is a shame you missed the opportunity to have a BBQ considering the weather was lovely during your stay. We value your feedback and are keen to have happy guests who enjoy their stay in our beloved house. Most of our guests are very content with their stay with us. We are sad that you didnt mention any problems during your 3 weeks stay - we communicated with you several times during your stay and we encouraged you to contact us if there were any problems - but you didnt mention any of this - we only found out now in your review - 8 weeks after the start of your stay which is a shame. If you had told us during your stay we would have done everything in our power to address them to ensure your stay was comfortable! The TV is brand new and working very well with Virgin Media cable channels and high speed internet - we repeat how grateful we are that your family was able to take delivery of the replacement TV from the shop at the beginning of your stay. The dining table extends to seat 6 persons - we wish you had contacted us and asked us for instructions on how to extend it - most guests manage this but we would have been happy provide instructions. There is also a spare drop leaf table in the dining room which also extends to seat 6 persons - so using either of these tables should have made your stay more comfortable. We so wish you would have called us! Our sofas are not broken - they are comfortable and we used them after your stay. And it has always been possible to use both toilets at the same time - not sure what you mean here. We instruct our cleaner to always provide kitchen towels and oven gloves together with normal towels and bed linen and can only apologize if this she omitted the kitchen towels this time. Again - we wish you mentioned this as soon as you noticed - our cleaner could easily have popped over with some more. Especially as you were booked to stay 3 weeks with us. We value your feedback about the sheets and towels provision - we take your feedback onboard and will ensure that more spare towels and sheets are provided for future long stays like yours. For all our long stays we offer the option of having one or more full mid-stay cleans of the house - our cleaner then cleans the entire house and also provides new sheets and towels. A mid-stay clean would probably have been a good fit for your needs but unfortunately you declined this offer but our guests in general like having this option and often take advantage of it to ensure they can enjoy their holiday to the full. Once again - we wish that you had contacted us during your stay to give us a chance to sort out any issues but be thank you nevertheless for taking the time to provide us with feedback. We are relieved that the hot water system now ensures great supply and pressure of hot water in both bathrooms and all taps. And we will take onboard your feedback to improve our house further for future guests.
