Location description from owner

The Surat Thani Province region

Koh Samui is in the Gulf of Thailand, about 35 km northeast of Surat Thani town (9°N, 100°E). It is the most significant island in the archipelago. The island measures some 25 km at its widest point. To the north are the populated resort islands of Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, and Koh Nang Yuan.

Close to Bangrak in NE Samui is the small uninhabited island of Koh Som, and to the northeast of Chaweng is the tiny Ko Matlang. In the southern direction are Ko Taen, Ko Matsum each of which have very small tourist facilities. To the far west are 44 other islands which together compose the National Marine Park which is accessible by a day-trip boat tour from Koh Samui.

The central part of Ko Samui island is the mostly unspoiled, natural tropical jungle, including the largest mountain named Khao Pom, peaking at 635 meters. The various lowland and coastal areas are connected by the main ring road 4169, which is a 51 km road, running primarily along the coastline and encircling the bulk of the island. Many other concrete roads branch off from the 4169 to service other areas.

On the west coast of the island is the original capital, Nathon, which still houses many government offices, as well as two of the island's five major piers. Nathon is the major port for vehicular and goods transportation from the mainland as well as the main passenger ferry terminal, it is also the centre of the fishing industry, though the seat of the regional government has been relocated further south.

Weather & Climate

The weather in Koh Samui generally comes in three distinct seasons: dry, hot and rainy.

Thailand is situated between the Tropic of Cancer and the Equator (slightly closer to the latter), making its climate warm and humid all year round. The humidity level is generally between 70 and 85 per cent, and the temperatures averages at around 28°C.

Located in the Gulf of Thailand, Koh Samui offers all that vacationers from cooler temperate countries could dream of regarding weather conditions. They are generally good year round, and the one thing you will rarely feel is cold. The optimum weather conditions can be enjoyed between December and August.

The Dry Season in Samui

The Dry Season in Samui runs roughly from December to February. With warm yet bearable temperatures, little rain, calm seas, and light winds.

Many consider this to be the best of the Koh Samui weather and the ideal time to choose a holiday.

The Hot Season

The hottest time of year is between March and April - a great time to visit if you can stand 30°C+ temperatures. Generally and historically around late April/early May, there is normally a sudden – and, for many a welcome and sudden arrival of rain. Paradoxically, from June to August is also considered a mini-high season in Samui. The weather usually follows a repeating pattern: strong daytime sunshine followed by late afternoon thunderstorms which are very welcoming.

The Rainy Season

September through to November sees the arrival of the monsoon and, therefore, the heaviest rainfall. Even at this time, it doesn’t fall every day and often only in short bursts. Koh Samui weather forecasts become increasingly unreliable as the conditions become unpredictable, with slightly rougher seas and winds. Although still great for a holiday where you intend to spend a lot of your time at the local beaches (particularly if you like your beaches less crowded) this is not the best time to come for diving and snorkeling, as visibility is reduced by around 30 per cent.

It is also worth bearing in mind that some other water related activities will be affected by rough seas and high winds.

(Please note, the weather predictions for Koh Samui are very different to those of Phuket and Krabi, which experience different seasons due to their location in the country). Do make specific enquires with your travel agent and ensure you are getting the right information, especially if you intend to partake in activities such as scuba diving, sailing, general water sports and golfing.

Maenam runs along a 7 km stretch of the ring road and is fondly regarded as one of the most sort after locations for guests seeking a more relaxed and local island feel.

The villa is situated approx. 2.3 km's away from the village of Maenam and its beaches and restaurants on the North Coast of Koh Samui, only 20 - 30 minutes from the boutique airport in Koh Samui.

Restaurants and Eateries

An eclectic assortment of restaurants and dining experiences await you in Maenam including of course, truly authentic Thai with amazing fresh seafood, French & Belgian, German, Austrian, Swiss, Italian Pizzerias, Japanese Sushi, Korean Barbecue, Turkish as well as the outstanding culinary experiences to be had within the hotels and boutique resorts close by.

"Walking Street" every Thursday in Maenam is an occasion not to be missed.

Regarded by seasoned regulars to be the best of the Walking Streets on the island, the village comes alive in a unique way every Thursday from late afternoon, with local vendors and restaurants fill the horseshoe road with an incredible array of food and delights.

Shopping, Taxis and Services

From the ring road, there is access to regular taxi services, internet cafes, Hair and beauty salons, Thai massage and reflexology boutiques, opticians, a 24 hour 7 - 11 food store, tailors, traditional Thai food market, pharmacy, banks with ATM cash machines and foreign exchanges, medical centre cycle bike hire outlet, scooter hire shops and much more.

Maenam Beach

(2.3 km's away from the villa - 5 minutes by car/scooter or a 15 - 20 minute walk)

Maenam Beach, located at the end of the street after passing through the China Town arches does not have the mass influx of tourists each day hence it is popular with couples and families seeking something a little more relaxed.

For Spa treatments, there is an abundance of options, from the simple beach massage and pedicure services to the very finest in self indulgence, you can also have a private massage treatment in the privacy of your own villa, conducted by a fully qualified masseuse, just make a request with our office a day or 2 before.

The main centre of Chaweng with its large supermarkets is around 20 minutes by car.

Golfing at its best

Located less than 10 minutes drive away from the villa is the renowned and challenging 18 hole Santi Buri Championship Golf Course and Country Club enjoying spectacular sea views of the island from its unique viewpoint.

Access to the neighbouring islands

A number of piers are situated in this area running regular services to Koh Phangnan and Koh Tao. Water sports on this beach are popular thanks to the windy shore, why not try your hand at kite-surfing or windsurfing?

The kite-surfing school operates from this beach.

Alles Top in Ordnung. Your`e simply the Best !

Thanks very much for your great review, it was so nice to meet you all and glad you enjoyed the Walking Street market, last night was not so good, rained all night but still the atmosphere was fun, Hope to see you again, best wishes to you all, Stuart & Aa Evans

My wife and I had a really excellent stay in Baan Rim Bueng with our daughter and her 2 young children. The villa was perfect - the children loved the pool which is on the veranda : the living space is large, well equipped and well maintained : the 3 bedrooms are also large with plenty of storage space. So well furnished it really did feel like a home from home. And as for Stuart there really was nothing he wouldn't sort out - from car hire to arranging transfers and getting in pizzas for our first night. The location is idyllic - water buffalo in the field next door - which does mean a car is pretty much essential to drive into town for provisions and visit the many local restaurants. For us that was no problem anyway as we explored the island.and took the children to the farm park, the water park, and of course various beaches. We will be back.

Many thanks Colin, it was great to meet you and hope to see you again another time, Best wishes, Stuart

“Luxury and service at great prices. we will be back”

The villa was amazing with everything you need and more. The kitchen is fitted with everything you will possible need. The bedrooms and living rooms are huge and they have full cable tv on a flatscreen. The pool is huge and we spent most mornings and late afternoons swimming around. The villa has a very large grass area for the kids to run around as well as a pond. The house is full of books and dvds which you can use. The villa is around 2km from the beach so a scooter or car is necessary. I shopped around a lot for a villa and found this villa to be the best value for luxury you can find even after you add the car hire costs. The villa is in a quite gated area. The service from Stuart the property manager for samran gardens and owner of bin rim reung was sensational. The recommendations for food and activities were all spot on. Any issues or questions were handled professionally and promptly. The service was so good I would not hesitate to rent any of the samran gardens villas. Stuart is even going to the extent of mailing some of toys sold at the local night market to my kids. We will definitely be back.

Pleasure to meet you and we are delighted the villa provided for all your needs, come back whenever you like, All the best, Stuart & Aa Evans

“Stunning accomodation set in a beautiful peaceful location.”

We couldn't beleive how lucky we were when we arrived at the villa Rim Bueng in Samran Gardens. The house was totally amazing, and standards were first class. It was like walking onto a glossy brochure for real, the photos were spot on. The setting was so tranquil, amazing range of tropical birds in the morning and a gentle breeze through the palm trees in the gardens. We fell in love with the place instantly. Stuart & Aa were lovely and it was just nice to have a British owner/Manager who had extremely high standards. I love to work out and It even had a fully equipped Multi Gym and Sauna :) We will definatly be visiting again, it was perfect. :)

It was a pleasure to meet you and we are so pleased you enjoyed the villa and the island, our staff have been informed of your kind comments and they are most grateful, best wishes Stuart & Aa Evans

“Pure luxury....”

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights, on our way back from our 3 week honeymoon in Australia. Working as a rental agent in the U.K, I was extremely impressed with the attention to detail by the local managing agents to make this feel like home from home. The set up on arrival was A1, very clean, and the photos on all counts depicted the real thing perfectly, if anything the villa was even better than the photos suggested. Superb and unique swimming pool, which has a kids section too, lovely gardens with a lake view. Very tranquil! It was a real pleasure to stay, albeit too briefly, as this does not feel like a typical rental unit. It is primarily a family home with lots of lovely personal touches, family photos, extensive library and a lot of DVD's, all for our use. The kitchen too is very well equipped if you like to cook, although I have to admit, we ate out every evening! There are many local eateries and we found them all really nice and great value for money but I can particularly recommend Salathai in Chaweng main street and a beach front restaurant in Fisherman's Village, Bo Phut but I can't remember the name (just past Starfish & Coffee). I would certainly return again, for longer next time and would highly recommend this accommodation to friends and family. Just a note, you do need a car or scooter (everyone uses them) if you wish to explore as it is not on the main road. Car hire was all arranged for us by the owner though at the time of booking and very inexpensive. The car was a real bonus and although the nearest beach was only a few minutes drive away it enabled us to explore the entire island visiting other beaches, elephant safari, the monks at Big Buddha and Nikki Beach resort. One final tip - Maenam Walking Street on a Thursday evening is a must. Make sure you encompass a Thursday evening (or two!) within your stay so that you can enjoy this very interesting Thai experience.

Thank you to you both for your kind comments, it certainly helps other potential guests in the final decision making process, we are so pleased you enjoyed the house so much, hope to see you again another time for a longer trip if you can Best wishes Stuart & Aa Evans

“Fantastic !”

Reviewed 9 Feb 2013

We stayed 2 weeks here over Christmas and had a wonderful time. The house is beautifully maintained with a lovely pool and garden. It is also particularly secluded in the Samran complex making it quite special. We were 7; 4 Adults (incl. 2 grandparents) and 3 children. The house was perfect for our needs. The Samran complex is well maitained with a good gymn literally a few yards from the house. Stuart, his wife and Ray were very helpful and helped make our holiday quite special. Samran Gardens is located quite close to the airport (about 20 mins) yet is nicely secluded. I can highly recommend the Thai restaurant where the road meets the nearby town - great need to cook at all (altough the house does have a well equipped kitchen). I highly recommend Samran and in particular this house.
