Location description from owner

The Surat Thani Province region

Koh Samui is Thailand's second largest island and lies off the west cost of the country in the Gulf of Thailand. Part of Surat Thani province the island is rich in natural resources and attracts in excess of 1.5 million visitors a year. The main attraction of Koh Samui is its coral reefs, white sandy beaches, untouched mountainous interior and year round climate with rains typically only seen in October and November. The island has its own privately owned international airport with daily flights to Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. Although a lot of the island has been developed, Koh Samui still has some untouched beaches and remote spots to enjoy. The island has super spa facilities, five star hotels and resorts, luxurious villa accommodation, budget style accommodation, local restaurants serving local fayre and fresh seafood as well as international standard five star restaurants. The island has many local attractions, superb nightlife and is only a stone's throw away from neighboring Koh Phangan. Koh Tao, which is popular with divers and the National Marine Park all of which can be enjoyed by day trips by boats also offering stunning sunset cruises. The laid back approach to life and the friendly locals have made it a popular retirement destination as well as a second home in the sun for people from every corner of the globe and such a wide range of long and short term villa rental options on the island it is not hard to see why.

Maenam

Maenam

This is an old fishing village on the north coast. It became very popular with the first tourist travellers, twenty years ago because of the beautiful, 4km long beach and views of Koh Phangan. It was expected to become the first location for big resorts but fortunately, Chaweng seems to have taken that title. This has allowed Maenam to develop much more slowly and it is still a quieter and more relaxed, charming place to be.

Thursday night sees a walking street in Maenam with many stalls and local vendors selling gifts, trinkets and food. At the beach end of the street there is usually a local band playing live rock music, interspersed with traditional Thai music and dancing. You will find all this going on outside the most ornate, Chinese temple on Koh Samui, reflecting the still present Chinese influences here.

“Great holiday in a villa of very high standard where everything had been thought of.”

Reviewed 17 Jan 2013

We had Christmas week in this villa and we had a brilliant time. Thanks to Lorraine, the manager, everything was thought of - she even managed to dig out some Xmas decs for us and a tree! She also very kindly met us from the ferry and we followed her to the villa - much better than satnav! The set up of the villa around the pool allows dinner outside and barbequing to continue even during the occasional tropical downpour. The villa is big enough to accommodate 6 easily and there are quiet areas if you want to get away from the party! The villa and everything in it was of a very high standard with a big kitchen and lounge, breakfast room and small quiet lounge and dressing room off the master bedroom. I loved the private outside shower! (There were 4 others showers) The pool and the garden we tended meticulously and were a delight, especially as nowhere are you overlooked.. Also the maid came in a couple of times during the week to keep the place shipshape. Satellite TV, DVD and you can also plug in your USB storage devices. The local restaurants were good, excellent value and were recommended by Lorraine. We had an inexpensive hire car which was necessary as the town was 2 kms away - of course this did mean a very peaceful villa away from the hubbub of Maenam. The beach was nice at Maenam and there are many others. Two good night markets that are a must. We toured the island, went elephant riding, and swam in a waterfall and went to the Ice Bar. Head in the opposite direction from Maenam up the Soy and, after an exciting drive up the mountain, the view from the bar at the top is beautiful! Plenty of Thai shopping but also access to some familiar names. Lorraine was very kind and answered all our questions on Thai society and we felt we had a much better insight into what makes the society tick. In summary I cannot recommend this villa enough
