Location description from owner

The Surat Thani Province region

Koh Samui is in the Gulf of Thailand, about 35 km northeast of Surat Thani town (9N, 100E). It is the most significant island in the archipelago. The island measures some 25 km at its widest point. To the north are the populated resort islands of Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, and Koh Nang Yuan.

Close to Bangrak in NE Samui is the small uninhabited island of Koh Som, and to the northeast of Chaweng is the tiny Ko Matlang. In the southern direction are Ko Taen, Ko Matsum each of which have very small tourist facilities. To the far west are 44 other islands which together compose the National Marine Park which is accessible by a day-trip boat tour from Koh Samui.

The central part of Ko Samui island is the mostly unspoiled, natural tropical jungle, including the largest mountain named Khao Pom, peaking at 635 meters. The various lowland and coastal areas are connected by the main ring road 4169, which is a 51 km road, running primarily along the coastline and encircling the bulk of the island. Many other concrete roads branch off from the 4169 to service other areas.

On the west coast of the island is the original capital, Nathon, which still houses many government offices, as well as two of the island's five major piers. Nathon is the major port for vehicular and goods transportation from the mainland as well as the main passenger ferry terminal, it is also the centre of the fishing industry, though the seat of the regional government has been relocated further south.

Weather & Climate

The weather in Koh Samui generally comes in three distinct seasons: dry, hot and rainy.

Thailand is situated between the Tropic of Cancer and the Equator (slightly closer to the latter), making its climate warm and humid all year round. The humidity level is generally between 70 and 85 per cent, and the temperatures averages at around 28C.

Located in the Gulf of Thailand, Koh Samui offers all that vacationers from cooler temperate countries could dream of regarding weather conditions. They are generally good year round, and the one thing you will rarely feel is cold. The optimum weather conditions can be enjoyed between December and August.

The Dry Season in Samui

The Dry Season in Samui runs roughly from December to February. With warm yet bearable temperatures, little rain, calm seas, and light winds.

Many consider this to be the best of the Koh Samui weather and the ideal time to choose a holiday.

The Hot Season

The hottest time of year is between March and April - a great time to visit if you can stand 30C+ temperatures. Generally and historically around late April/early May, there is normally a sudden and, for many a welcome and sudden arrival of rain. Paradoxically, from June to August is also considered a mini-high season in Samui. The weather usually follows a repeating pattern: strong daytime sunshine followed by late afternoon thunderstorms which are very welcoming.

The Rainy Season

September through to November sees the arrival of the monsoon and, therefore, the heaviest rainfall. Even at this time, it doesnt fall every day and often only in short bursts. Koh Samui weather forecasts become increasingly unreliable as the conditions become unpredictable, with slightly rougher seas and winds. Although still great for a holiday where you intend to spend a lot of your time at the local beaches (particularly if you like your beaches less crowded) this is not the best time to come for diving and snorkeling, as visibility is reduced by around 30 per cent.

It is also worth bearing in mind that some other water related activities will be affected by rough seas and high winds.

(Please note, the weather predictions for Koh Samui are very different to those of Phuket and Krabi, which experience different seasons due to their location in the country). Do make specific enquires with your travel agent and ensure you are getting the right information, especially if you intend to partake in activities such as scuba diving, sailing, general water sports and golfing.

Maenam

Maenam runs along a 7 km stretch of the ring road and is fondly regarded as one of the most sort after locations for guests seeking a more relaxed and local island feel.

The villa is situated approx. 2.3 km's away from the village of Maenam and its beaches and restaurants on the North Coast of Koh Samui, only 20 - 30 minutes from the boutique airport in Koh Samui.

Restaurants and Eateries

An eclectic assortment of restaurants and dining experiences await you in Maenam including of course, truly authentic Thai with amazing fresh seafood, French & Belgian, German, Austrian, Swiss, Italian Pizzerias, Japanese Sushi, Korean Barbecue, Turkish as well as the outstanding culinary experiences to be had within the hotels and boutique resorts close by.

"Walking Street" every Thursday in Maenam is an occasion not to be missed.

Regarded by seasoned regulars to be the best of the Walking Streets on the island, the village comes alive in a unique way every Thursday from late afternoon, with local vendors and restaurants fill the horseshoe road with an incredible array of food and delights.

Shopping, Taxis and Services

From the ring road, there is access to regular taxi services, internet cafes, Hair and beauty salons, Thai massage and reflexology boutiques, opticians, a 24 hour 7 - 11 food store, tailors, traditional Thai food market, pharmacy, banks with ATM cash machines and foreign exchanges, medical centre cycle bike hire outlet, scooter hire shops and much more.

Maenam Beach

(2.3 km's away from the villa - 5 minutes by car/scooter or a 15 - 20 minute walk)

Maenam Beach, located at the end of the street after passing through the China Town arches does not have the mass influx of tourists each day hence it is popular with couples and families seeking something a little more relaxed.

For Spa treatments, there is an abundance of options, from the simple beach massage and pedicure services to the very finest in self indulgence, you can also have a private massage treatment in the privacy of your own villa, conducted by a fully qualified masseuse, just make a request with our office a day or 2 before.

The main centre of Chaweng with its large supermarkets is around 20 minutes by car.

Golfing at its best

Located less than 10 minutes drive away from the villa is the renowned and challenging 18 hole Santi Buri Championship Golf Course and Country Club enjoying spectacular sea views of the island from its unique viewpoint.

Access to the neighbouring islands

A number of piers are situated in this area running regular services to Koh Phangnan and Koh Tao. Water sports on this beach are popular thanks to the windy shore, why not try your hand at kite-surfing or windsurfing?

The kite-surfing school operates from this beach.

“Absolutely amazing family holiday!”

Reviewed 9 Mar 2015

We stayed at Baan Flora for 2 weeks over the January school holidays and it was absolutely amazing. The house was so beautiful and the location was fantastic. Property Managers Stuart and his wife were super friendly and extremely helpful! Stuart helped us with day tours, car hire and tour guides etc. We would have been lost without him :). Overall it was an amazing experience that we will never forget.

Hi Kira, So glad you had a great time, it was so nice to meet you all, come back anytime, Best wishes Stuart

“Beautiful villa, in lovely surroundings”

Reviewed 29 Jan 2014

Stuart, thank you so much for our stay in Koh Samui. The villa, pool and gardens are amazing, so beautifully laid out. Spacious and very well equipped kitchen, lovely comfortable beds, with beautiful bedding. Any help you require, Stuart is always on hand. The only complaint was that the jacuzzi bath was broken, really could have relaxed in that after the long flight, had to make do with a shower, which was actually very refreshing and powerful. All in all a wonderful time, thanks again Stuart.

Many thanks Pam, it was really great to meet you all, it was a shame about the bath, sorry for that, Hope the wedding went well, Best wishes Stuart

“A home from home! Highly recommend”

Reviewed 1 Jul 2013

It has been a lovely holiday from the initial enquiries with Stuart and his team, they have gone above and beyond with their attentiveness. The villa had plenty of space for our family of four, plus the grandparents and brother in law. My children are 3 years old and 8 months and they catered for us with cots, small bed, high chairs etc. There was ample space for the whole family, each having a bathroom to themselves pretty much and the additional study room is where my 3 year old slept, so we really had 4 bedrooms. Loved the villa, the pool, the complex and the friendly staff. I would recommend renting a car however, with young children now being able to walk to far to the main road and beach, and that way you can explore the island too.

Many thanks for your kind comments and we are delighted you enjoyed the villa and the island, Best wishes Stuart Evans
