Description

This typically Spanish house is set in a small sleepy village in the rural heart of lower Aragon, in an area which produces wine, olives, almonds and the famous melocotones, or large peach. The olives here are the best in the world.

The layout is more typically English, in that the kitchen and dining room/sitting room with TV and DVD player are on the ground floor, but everything else about the house, including the generously sized washroom on the top floor, is Spanish!

The house has 4 bedrooms, two on the first floor, one with a double bed, one with a new fold down full size double sofa bed, and 2 single rooms in the upper floor. There is also a lovely bathroom with toilet, bidet, shower and sink.

In the living room there is a TV for guests use which is connected to the local Spanish television service. The house also benefits from WiFi internet access, and there is a computer in the 2nd double bedroom.

The village has shops, bars and all other amenities, including an open air swimming pool which is open in the summer from June - Sept, when the children here are on holiday. In August there is a fiesta, during which Maella swells in size and activity! Children are warmly welcomed here, and is you want a taste of the real Spain, this is the place to come. There is a high chair available for younger diners, and a cot.
In July and August, temperatures can reach 45 degrees, but in general, the weather in Aragon is good, with only sudden rain showers! December and January are cold months, and as the house has no central heating, these months the house is not available. If this is the time you want, please email me, and medium or autumn prices would apply.

Location description from owner

The Aragón region

Aragon is a largely rural area, which is undiscovered by tourism. It is hot in summer, and cool in winter, but without the extremes of temperature found in other parts of Spain, or in England.
Quiet villages scatter the area, and everyone has time to stop and enjoy a coffee, or a beer. Fast food outlets are virtually unknown in this area, except in the larger cities.
The climate is hot in summer, with little rain, but cooler in Spring and Autum. Winters rarely get below zero here! Snow is a rarity, but sunshine is not, even in the cooler months, making the days warm almost year round.

Maella

Maella is a small village, which boasts all the shops amenities you need on a daily basis, and an open air swimming pool in the summer months. There is also a 24 hour medical centre in case of any emergencies, so you can have the best of both worlds here. Early August sees the fieta in full swing in Maella, with bars offering more food and local delights, as well as nearly 24 hour partying for all ages! Fietas are not just for the 18 - 30 crowd!

The scenery is beautiful and full of wildlife, including birds of prey and hoopoe, as well as wild boar(in the counytyside). The night time sky is a must for star gazers, as the lack of light pollution means you can see so much more!

The annual Vuelta a Espana, (or Spanish Tour de France) comes through Maella, so if you are interested in seeing this, our house would be ideal.

Caspe is about a 20 minute drive from Maella, and offers more shops, a bowling centre and fishing on Lake Caspe.

Further afield, there is the city of Alcaniz, and the beautiful mountains of Catalunya are an hour away by car.

There is public transport to Barcelona from Maella, operated by Hife (www.hife.es for details).

The nearest train station is in Caspe. (www.renfe.es). Trains go to Barcelona, Zaragoza, and so to other destinations.
