The Madeira Islands region
Madeira also known as the Pearl of the Atlantic or floating garden is situated between latitude 32º22'20" and 33º7'50" with its longitude between 16º16'30W and 17º16'38"W. The island of Madeira has a surface area of 459 square miles (741 km2), (35 miles long and 13 miles wide). The island is 310 miles from the African coast and 620 miles from the European continent, which is the equivalent of a 1 hour 30 minute flight from Lisbon. The archipelago, discovered by the Portuguese in 1418, is made up of the islands of Madeira, Porto Santo and the uninhabited islands of Selvages and Deserts.
These islands, because of their privileged geographical position and mountainous relief, have a surprisingly mild climate. Very mild average temperatures, 22ºC in the summer and 16ºC in the winter, and a moderate level of humidity, confer upon these islands exceptional subtropical features. The seawater temperature is also very mild, because of the influence of the warm Gulf current, presenting averages of 22ºC in the summer and 18º in the winter.
Today, it is a popular year-round resort, noted for its Madeira wine, flowers, and embroidery artisans, as well for its annual New Years celebrations that feature spectacular fireworks (considered the largest in the world according to the Guinness World Records). The main harbour in Funchal is an important stopover for commercial and trans-Atlantic passenger cruises between Europe, the Caribbean and North America.
Machico is a city with all services necessary for a beach holiday. It has three hypermarkets. 2 of them are about 10 minutes on foot. Post Office. Hairdressers. Promenade along the sea. The public transport station is about 5 minutes walk, allowing for convenient access to anywhere on the island. Aquaparqe 10 minutes by car. Other Activities: Aquaparque Golf: The Center of Santo da Serra Golf is about 15 minutes by car and was designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior and Mother Nature
Excellent location. It has a tourist information office where you can gather information about the activities, very relaxing walks by the sea, dolphin watching, visit the nature reserve of deserted spaces for children and numerous nightlife spots. Found in 5-minute walk of bus station that will allow you to move in 30 minutes to Funchal and other points of interest throughout the island such as water park, botanical garden, Funchal, Funchal cable car, museums and galleries, Theme Park in Santana, caves of São Vicente, natural pools of Porto Moniz... You can also conduct numerous Walks from Machico enjoying a unique experience in the forest Laurissilva, world natural heritage.

"Very modern, well appointed villa, brand new"
Ana, the owner was lovely and collected us from the airport, gave us Madeira cake, wine and local bread as a welcome. Only a 8 minute walk to the bus station and big supermarket, but a very steep walk back to the villa which is halfway up a hill. About 10 minute walk to beach and machico centre. the only downsides were the awkward entry to the garage with our hire car, takes some practice! all the neighbouring houses had dogs that lived outside and barked intermittently in the daytime and sometimes at night, so we couldn't leave the windows open much at night for fear of being woken up. Most residential areas of Madeira seem to suffer from barking dogs as they are let out to roam free at night. At least 5 dogs within 50metres of the villa that bark at the slightest thing!! So if you want peace and quiet to read a book on the sun terrace you will not get it !!
Thanks for your review and preference. At Madeira the residents have some animals and they barked sometimes. Some hosts like that and say's it's funny. Wishing host you in the future...
