The lounge boasts a corner sofa, large enough for 3/4 people and two bucket chairs, enabling you to enjoy the view through the French doors to the garden and to watch the wildlife. There is a wall mounted electric fire and wall mounted 32" TV. The Barn has Sky for those days when you feel like staying in - including Sky Movies! There is free Wifi throughout the Barn. We provide a DVD player and several DVD's at the property for your further enjoyment, along with books and games. We operate a "swap" system for books - if you have finished with yours, simply replace it with a book at the Barn and leave your unwanted one, so there is no need to leave that unfinished book behind!

The bathroom comprises a sink, toilet and bath with shower over, with a glass shower screen.

Upstairs the double bedroom contains a small wardrobe, chest of three drawers, bedside drawers and a Freeview TV. The twin room also has a small wardrobe, chest of three drawers, bedside drawers and Freeview TV.

The large, wild gardens at the front and the rear make the Barn a great location for amateur bird and wildlife spotters, attracting visits from otters, heron, kingfishers and buzzards. There is a patio in front of the French doors containing a table and four chairs, along with cushions and an umbrella for when it is warm and dry. At the rear of the property there is a small raised patio area with a bistro table and two chairs.

(Smoking is not permitted inside the cottage, and guests are requested to provide their own ash/litter containers for smoking outside).

Located on the A48 between Chepstow and Lydney, the Barn is an ideal base for exploring the historical cities of Bath, Bristol, Gloucester, Cheltenham. We are well placed for visiting the local attractions in the Royal Forest of Dean such as Chepstow Castle, Symonds Yat Rock, famous for its nesting Peregrine falcons, Clearwell Caves, Perrygrove Railway and Puzzlewood - where many popular series and films have been filmed (Merlin, The Hobbit and, more recently, the latest Star Wars film). Other nearby attractions include Gloucester Cathedral, where some of Harry Potter was filmed, and Brunel's SS Great Britain in Bristol.

Nearest pub 0.25 miles, restaurant 2 miles, local shop 1 mile.

“Highly recommended”

We had such a lovely stay at Colne Brook Barn. It Was so clean and comfortable, and also really well equipped. The gardens are a real treat - lots of space and lovely outdoor furniture. Highly recommended.

Thank you for your lovely review.

“Fabulous barn cottage in fabulous surroundings”

Couldn't get friendlier owners, so helpful! Everything you could ask for in the cottage too and so nicely kept and private, not overlooked but owners only a stone's throw away if you need anything. Look out for the towel animals on arrival!

“Cosy little cottage in a beautiful setting.”

Reviewed 17 Nov 2013

Easy access to lots of lovely places to visit, however, the week we went the weather was not favorable so we did not do as many of the walks as we would have liked but we were able to come back to the lovely warm cottage and play games/watch DVDs or things we had on "Sky plus"/read and generally chill out. The cottage was well equipped for our stay with chocolate muffins included in the welcome tray. The only down side was difficulty drying washing. There is a huge garden in front of the cottage where your dogs can run so long as they are not the sort to run off as it is not completely enclosed. A bit of a walk from the car to the barn (though they are hoping to rectify this) but they took all our luggage on the tractor for us on the day we left. Shirley, Mike and their dogs were very friendly and we greatly enjoyed our stay. Hope to go back sometime.

Many thanks for your review. Your point about drying washing has been taken onboard and we are intending to install a rotary washing line in the garden over our December maintenance period. Kind regards.
