Description from owner

Description

As you approach the house the majestic scotch pines guide you to Hunters Lodge. From the top floor of the annexe you wonder if it could be Tuscany, however it is one of England's most beautiful protected landscapes. Your gaze passes over miles of woodlands and fields into the distance. Though of easy access, Hunters Lodge is on a small private roadway almost free of traffic except for a few passing horses.

The entrance to your accommodation is separate and private to the main house. The rooms are spacious with wooden floors and high ceilings. It has a warm atmosphere. During the day enjoy losing yourself in the myriad of winding lanes, and at night settling down by a roaring log fire.

The Retreat is located on the edge of the Forest of Dean, a riverside walk away from Tintern and it's famous Abbey .There are several options for eating. A "real pub" in Brockweir, the Village Shop/cafe for your supplies and coffee and snacks (staffed by the volunteers

A "real pub" in Brockweir, the Village Shop/cafe for your supplies and coffee and snacks (staffed by the volunteers of the community) and in Tintern another café, all within walking distance.

George and Rebecca are both painters. They enjoy talking about art and can offer tuition if requested. This is an ideal place for painting, taking walks, or just relaxing with a book.

Location description from owner

The England region

Hunter's Lodge was situated in this particular spot for at least one excellent reason: to take advantage of one of the best views in the area, a dramatic panorama of the beautiful Wye Valley. This is the heart of the Lower Wye Valley, defined by the River Wye itself – a precious natural resource now designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Hunter's Lodge Retreat is laid out over two floors – each one big airy and comfortable, with an outlook over garden or plunging view from every window. Comfortable furnishings, a good big wood burner, and pictures on the walls (the owners are both artists), make this a very cosy, homely place to stay. Sleeps 2 (plus a child and/or an infant).

Lydney

Brockweir, the nearby village, whose centre is down the hill by the river, boasts a pub, which serves good food, and (a little way up the hill from the village) a really good community shop with a café. It sells good fresh bread, delicatessen and groceries, and all sorts of really good local produce, from meat to locally-grown fruit and veg. The handsome county town of Monmouth is 20 minute's drive away for good shopping; and Chepstow, for both the town, the castle, or its race course, is the same distance in the other direction. The attractive small town of Newland, with its beautiful church, dubbed 'the Cathedral of the Forest' is close, and there is also a good pub there called The Ostrich. For enthusiasts of fine dining, The Crown at Whitebrook, with its Michelin-starred cooking, is a must. If you bring a child with you, they will be spoilt for choice for things to keep them happy locally - GoApe in the forest is superb, bicycle tracks at Pedalabikeaway are great for cycling in complete safety, and Puzzlewood is a unique and enchanting place, often the location for filming programmes such Dr. Who and Merlin. A beautiful little steam train, which is very popular with children, runs up and down the Dean Forest Railway from Lydney.
