Location description from owner

The Dalmatia region

Peljesac peninsula has a perfect location for exploring the Dalmatia region of Croatia, all the while staying out of tourist traps and crowded beaches.Within an hour's drive from our apartments you can visit: Dubrovnik - the medieval fortress hugely popularized by the recent filming of Game of Thrones, Ston - a town with the second largest fortifying wall int he world and it's famous salt fileds, Orebic - a town founded by marine captains who traveled the world and built lovely estates there, Korcula island - the location of the ancient Greek colony Melaina Korkyra (Black Korkyra), and island with rich culture and history, Mljet national park..and many other hidden jewels like small local restaurants, amazing wineries, hidden coves and beaches etc.

Luka Dubrava

The sea here is very clean, in fact that was the reason the whole Channel of Mali Ston was declared a Special Natural Reserve in 1983. And because the channel is rather shallow without strong currents, the water temperature is usually a few degrees higher than in most other places on the Croatian coast. The swimming season here starts around the second half of April, and lasts usually by the end of October. One other interesting bit - the famous wind (the Bura) that brings good weather but cold sea to most other places has a reverse effect on water temperature here - because of our position and the character of the channel. Mali Ston Channel is quite isolated from strong winds and big waves, and while a short drive to the other side of the narrow peninsula gives you access to the most famous surfing grounds on the Croatian coast, our side allows stand-up paddling, canoeing, snorkeling , floating around on inflatable floats and general gentle seas activities. The nearest store is in the village Janjina, about 4 km from us. There is a post office in Janjina as well, but we recommend using the one in Putnikovici ( a village 3 km from us in the direction of Ston), because there are usually less people there. We can recommend good restaurants in the area that won't drain your wallet, and where to stock up on food to avoid "tourist prices".
