Description

The Casita is a lovely village house decorated in Moorish Andalucian style.

There are two bedrooms, one double bed and the other with two twin beds. There is also a double futon in the sitting room. The house has one bathroom. However, there is the option (if the next door house is not rented out), to also have use of a third bedroom with bunk beds sleeping 2 and a lovely shower room. There is an additional cost of 100 euro per week to use this extra bedroom and shower room. This bedroom is entered from a door in the sitting room where the double futon is. This is a good area to have 4 children sleep with 4 adults then in the bedrooms, or it allows 6 people to have their own bedrooms and use a larger sitting room area.

There is an open sitting room, fully equipped kitchen/diner with a small dining table and breakfast bar seating four. It has a small breakfast terrace with table and awning and a spiral staircase up to a large sun terrace with shaded areas, hammocks, sun loungers,

Location description from owner

The Andalucia region

This is a traditional, authentic village house in the mountains but close to the beach and in a Nature Reserve. A piece of history as this kind of village will not be around for long. It is perfect for exploring the region - the Alpajurras, Al Hambra, Granada, cycling down mountain roads (The tour De Espagne came this way), beautiful walks to quiet beach coves or cobbled mountain paths, picking oranges for the juicer, swimming in the ocean, lying at beach bars or even getting a ferry across to Morocco.

Lujar

Parking is a few minutes walk from the house - paths are steep as house is formed out of the mountain. The village communal swimming pool, tennis and basket ball courts and football pitch are a five minute walk away. The pool is open June until September.

There is a door in the apartment and a gate on the terrace that link the casita to the house next door called Casa Azul. These are locked when the two properties are occupied separately but can be opened when the properties are rented together. This suits families and gives a total of occupancy of 14 but it means that the futon area of the apartment and the bunk room of the house, although shut off at night and so private are "through" rooms during the day as they link the properties.

Lujar is a small, traditional country village nestling in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. It's surrounded by almond trees, olive groves and ancient cobbled mule tracks that weave their way through the valley.

Although it's a short drive to the shops, you can buy fresh bread, meat, fish etc from one of the vans that set up and sell to the villagers every day from the square. There is a late night kiosk selling ice cream, cigarettes and drinks and 2 bar restaurants.

The village is 45 mins drive to Granada, 10 mins drive to the coast. Malaga is 1 hour 45 mins drive, Grenada 60 mins and Almeria 90 mins. It is 60 mins to the Alhambra and the ski resorts of the Sierra Nevada.

“Relaxing family cottage in the mountains”

Reviewed 4 Sep 2016

We'e just returned from 2 weeks in this lovely cottage in Lujar. The cottage was well equipped particularly for children with toys, paddling pool and beach toys available for use. The sun roof is amazing for sun bathing and views! There is plenty of storage for clothes and a washing machine to save from packling too much! The village itself is very friendly, the local bar is very amiable and MariPepi makes anything you wish to eat, although take your phrasebook as they dont speak much English. The neighbours are very agreeable and pleasant. The steepish path up to the property kept us fit, as did the small walk to the communal pool, but well worth it as you can enjoy the scenery, the goat herds moving the goats around and may even come across the odd mule! We arrived just in time for the end of the local fiestas which did mean parking was sometimes a little difficult but we enjoyed some local singing and dancing and some late cinema nights for the children where the films were projected onto the wall of the local bar. You most definitely need a car as the drive from the bottom of the mountain to the village takes just under 10 minutes. The best beach we went to was the Playa La Rijana which was great for snorkeling, catching some rays and building sandcastles. We travelled with a child of 10 and one of 3 years and both found the village, cottage and beaches great fun. Salobrena is not far to visit with its bars and restaurants - Chiringuito Casa Emilio was a particular favourite. Also Almunecar which is a little further to travel, has a fantastic waterpark suitable for ALL ages and an aquarium. If you do visit Lujar, we most definitely recommend a visit to the Alhambra palace in Granada - but DO book your entrance tickets in advance to avoid disappointment. Tamsin the owner was very easy to contact and was very helpful. There are some English people who live in the village and Pauline (the lady who looks after the property) is very easy to talk to and get advice from. Book up this property today as its well worth it!!!

what a lovely review. I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay and threw yourself into the village life. I hope you come back soon!
