The England region

Shropshire, maybe one of England's quiet counties but don't be deceived; there's still plenty to see and do. Shropshire has over 90 places to visit - historic houses and castles with beautiful gardens, the famous Ironbridge, museums and family attractions.
Shropshire has many traditional market towns including gourmet Ludlow and the county town of Shrewsbury. Shrewsbury almost surrounded by the River Severn and birthplace of Charles Darwin, is a medieval delight of black and white buildings.
The Shropshire landscape reflects the fact that Shropshire is geologically unique and creates the special habitats that ensures that Shropshire wildlife is so diverse. All this adds up to making Shropshire great walking country.
So whether you're out and about on Shropshire Hills, by the Meres and Mosses or strolling along with the Shropshire Union and Llangollen Canals you can guarantee the Shropshire air will rejuvenate and restore you.

Ludlow

Ludlow is a thriving market town - an architectural gem with a lively community feel, Ludlow bustles with events and festivals throughout the year.
Perched on a cliff above the River Teme, Ludlow is surrounded by the unspoilt and beautiful hilly countryside of south Shropshire and the Welsh border country, known as the Welsh Marches. Excellent walking and cycling opportunities are right on our doorstep.
In recent years, Ludlow and the surrounding area has acquired an excellent reputation for the quality of its food and drink. Some of the best restaurants in Britain can be found here, encouraged by the areas abundance of quality food and drink producers. Every September, the showcase for this is the Ludlow Food and Drink Festival, when the town is filled with food lovers from all over the UK, and beyond.
Ludlow town centre's layout and architecture is evidence of the 900 year old Norman planned towns history. The town came to existence when Ludlow Castle was started in 1086 and the medieval town walls were built shortly after. Ludlow has over 450 listed buildings, with over 650 in South Shropshire. Grade I listed buildings in Ludlow include Ludlow Castle, St. Laurence's Church and The Feathers Hotel.

“Brilliant”

An ideal in town centre location within a short walk to the market place where we found lovely bread, cheese and veg. A fabulous coffee shop and good places to eat in the evening. The house had everything we needed in the way of equipment and cleaning materials- we took our own but did not unpack the box. Clean, neat and tidy. The parking was a welcome bonus and the mews was very quiet. Would definitely go again.

Owner's reply: Many thanks indeed for your kind words, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and would be most welcome to make a return visit. Best wishes Anne

“Beautiful acommodation in a glorious town”

Reviewed 7 Aug 2016

Beautiful house soooo clean and close to the town centre the owner of the property is lovely and the tea coffe milk and sugar awaiting us ( not to mention the great bottle of wine) was a very welcome touch. Ludlow has an amazing history with so much to offer the holiday maker. The Chinese takeaway across the road from the entrance produces gorgeous reasonably priced takeaway yum . Plenty to see and do in this beautiful town pubs are great and the castle is a must see. We will be returning.

“Perfect cosy cottage in the centre of Ludlow.”

Lavender Cottage had all the facilities required to ensure a comfortable stay. The cottage was clean and all the arrangements in place worked without a hitch. It was cosy and warm which was essential for this time of the year. The location is perfect to all the shops and restaurants.

“Excellent location”

We were looking for a last-minute break and found this self-catering unit in Ludlow. We chose it because it was central to all the action but came with parking, which can be difficult in Ludlow's tiny streets. It proved a great choice: small but perfectly formed.
