Location description from manager

The Tuscany region

Lucca is one of those Tuscan towns that is a must! It has won the best of the Best City in Italy award on various occasions and this award is well deserved.

Lucca is famous for its Renaissance-era city walls that have remained intact while so many other Tuscan towns saw theirs destroyed in past centuries.

Lucca is located on a plain at the foot of the Apuan Alps and is less than half an hour from the Tuscan coast.

Imagine a beautiful little Tuscan town protected by massively thick 16th-century walls, featuring some of Italy's finest medieval and Renaissance architecture, superb dining, antique markets, classical and rock music festivals, easy access to stunning nearby villas in the surrounding hills and with endless beaches less than half an hour away.

Lucca is one of Tuscany's best-kept secrets.

A wealthy and colorful town that draws a more discerning tourist than Florence or Pisa, it is sufficiently off the beaten track to have kept its civility and reserve. Lucca is a city of merchants who know how to woo the visitor and the shopper, but the pace of life varies between slow and slower. You can wander through the market, or visit the designer shops!

Lucca has one particularly stunning feature - ancient ramparts that ring the old city. The inhabitants built these brick walls in the 16th century for defense. Today, walk (or bike) around the city on the wide shaded walkways atop the walls. Then relax under the trees in the 'park' on top of the walls.

Then climb up the Torre Guinigi - the 130 ft. tower has an ancient oak tree on top!

The enormous and beautifully conserved villas and gardens of the Lucca hills have become a major attraction for visitors to the town too.

Lucca is perfectly located for visiting other Tuscan Cities and the Versilian coast as well as the mountainous Garfagnana. Perfect location for a real mix of experiences!

Lucca Historical Center

The apt is set within the Piazza del Ampiteatro, with its coffee bars, restaurants & real Italian atmosphere!
There is a beautiful delicatessen just outside for DIY lunches & breakfast, & numerous restaurants at your doorstep. Lucca has regularly been voted best City in Italy, and no wonder - there is a wealth of historic buildings, interesting architecture, cobbled streets, lots of Piazza's for relaxing, people watching and listening to music.
There are the famous walls of the city, which are fully intact and wide. - a place for cycling, jogging, picnicking or just relaxing on the grass...
There are lots of cultural events, regular antiques markets, concerts, & of course the designer shops!
If you tire of meandering or cycling within the city walls then
the coast is 20 mins;
Pisa 25 mins;
Florence 50 mins;
Siena1 hr 40mins;
the mountainous region of Garfagnana 40 mins;
Barga 40 mins, and of course the beautiful countryside surrounding the city with hilltop villages, plenty of walking..

Leave the car behind A car is not a necessity at this property since it is only 30 minutes by train from Pisa airport.

The city is perfect for a short or long break!

“Awesome”

Reviewed 9 Sep 2015

We loved this place! The location was extraordinary and the apartment was lovely. The apartment was spacious, clean, and right on the square. Having two bathrooms for two of us was also a luxury. Lucca itself is magical and the apartment was so centrally located that it allowed us to experience the town without having to worry about our car. We pretty much just parked outside of town and didn't give it another thought until we departed. Also, since we love dining out, being within walking distance of so many great restaurants was terrific.

Thank you for your review. We agree that the location is extraordinary and is in our opinion unbeatable in Lucca!
