Description from owner

Description

In a great location, Rose Cottage offers comfortable accommodation for 4/5 in two bedrooms. There is a well-equipped kitchen, bathroom and sitting room with a wood-burning stove. It is within the hamlet of Loweswater, a few minutes' walk from the Kirkstile Inn, with views across the Lorton valley to Grasmoor, Whiteside, Crummock water and towards Buttermere (sometimes Great Gable).
Separate laundry facilities (washing machine and drying cabinet) are located in outhouse, next-door to outside loo!
Travel cot and high-chair available on request.

Rose Cottage has a long and varied history. It was used as the original school house until the school itself was built at the top of the village,

It was home to various people including the local blacksmith who worked in the old Smithy opposite (now demolished).
His daughters lived on in the house for many years and are remembered by today's 'older generation' for selling sweets from the cottage.

“Lovely cottage in an idyllic location”

Reviewed 18 Sep 2013

We have now holidayed at Rose Cottage twice. The cottage and garden suit us and our dog very well. Mungo loves having such a large area to run around, and it is as secure as it can be. The location is idyllic, half way between Keswick and Cockermouth. Plenty of walks within easy distance, including some right from the front door. We don't even miss the TV ! And the addition of a laundry room has been a great benefit. If you want peace, perfect peace, this is the place !

“Wonderful cottage wonderful location”

Reviewed 18 Sep 2013

Rose cottage lived up to all expectations, the cottage went far beyond what you normally expect from a holiday cottage. The cottage itself was very clean very cosy and the location was just perfect for us. The village felt friendly and we ate a couple of times at the local pub which is within walking distance of the cottage (always a plus!!) where the food and ambiance was great as was the welcome that we received at the local church. The walking in the area was great and there were numerous maps of the lakes and plenty of ideas of where to walk. On days when we didn't walk there were plenty of books and games in the cottage to keep us occupied. We are looking forward to many more visits in the future Mike quick

“Such a joy to be able to walk right from the cottage”

Beautiful setting, with loads of local walks - you hardly need to use a car. We either walked from the cottage or used the bus via Lanthwaite. Cottage was comfortable and well stocked. Lovely welcome from Roger and Ann.

“Beautiful location, peaceful and relaxing”

Reviewed 18 Sep 2013

The cottage is set in a beautiful location, within easy reach of Buttermere, Crummock and Loweswater lakes, and Keswick and Cokcermouth a short drive away. The village (more a hamlet) of Loweswater is very peaceful and quiet, a perfect spot for anyone wanting to get away from it all. The cottage itself has all the facilities you could need, and makes an ideal base for touring the northern Lakes.
