“Lovely cottage with plenty of character - but cold.”

Reviewed 3 Mar 2014

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Bakehouse for Valentines weekend, I had thorough communication between Shoshana via email and she answered every little query I had. She was brilliant! However, she did say that she would be on holiday herself during our stay but has a housekeeper to tend to the cottage whilst she is away, which was no problem. The only problem we had was that we got there at 2pm (the check-in time stated) the heating hadn't been turned on before we arrived. This usually wouldn't be a problem but as the cottage is open plan and there were only two radiators downstairs, it was really very cold, I didn't take my coat off for a good few hours and could see my breath for 2. Downstairs never really got 100% warm, however upstairs was a very pleasant temperature throughout the stay. There is a large log burner but neither my boyfriend nor myself have ever used one nor built a fire, we tried a good few times and asked Trisha (the housekeeper) for guidance (she also gave us more supplies) but by this time it was dark and late and we did not want to disturb her further. In the end we gave up and wore jumpers and waited for the radiators to kick in. The rest of the cottage was beautiful and cosy, the breakfast hamper was delicious and there was a wide range of DVDs in the cupboard that kept us entertained when we decided to stay in the one evening. The bedroom was beautifully decorated and the bed and sheets were very comfortable and of high quality. I am certain that the heating problem wouldn't have happened if Shoshana had been there herself, but nevertheless it did cause downstairs to be quite uncomfortable for a while.

“An absolutely wonderful cottage for two/three.”

This cottage set in a fantastic garden, with heated pool at your door, together with beautiful patio wicker furniture, is really something else. Five stars it is given. I would give it ten. The owner is a wonderfully helpfull person without being intrusive. Far from it, she is close if you need her and is full of advice IF you need it. I can't emphasise how lovely this place is. Stunning!
