The Cotswolds region
April 2008 - Online magazine AskMen.com has compiled a list of the top ten ‘paradise’ locations around the world that seem to have remained untouched by civilisation. The Cotswolds is 2nd Place!
The region is famous for its ancient mellow ‘honey’ coloured limestone villages that blend perfectly into the countryside and its bustling market towns. Many have scarcely altered since they grew up on the prosperity of the medieval wool trade in the 15th and 16th centuries and subsequently forgotten about for more then 300 years. This sequence of events now makes the Cotswolds region one of the most treasured, toured and vacationed in England and the UK for nowhere else will you see such timeless uniqueness and heart warming preservation on such a scale.
Many traditional villages within 15 minutes reach, offering tradition combined with chic
Ideal for antique hunters :visit the charming villages of Bourton on the Water (the Venice of the Cotswolds), Burford, Stow on the Wold, Moreton in Marsh and Chipping Camden (plus many others), the larger spa towns of Bath (a World Heritage Site) and Cheltenham (famed for it’s beautiful Regency
architecture) or Oxford (the city of dreaming spires) and Stratford-upon-Avon is just over 1 hour away.
For those looking for a bargain, Bicester Village offers most sought-after brands at prices reduced by up to 60%
We are within a short walk to Somerford Keynes, a local village with a Quality Pub and a number of other small villages are within 5 minutes drive, offering local amenities like: Post office, Grocery shop and more Pubs.
The estate is located within the Cotswold Waterpark which provides numerous opportunities to explore either on foot, by bike or watercraft, seasonal cable skiing is also on offer as are sailing, canoeing and windsurfing tuition/hire.
The are several golf courses locally.
An artificial beach on one of the lakes within the Keynes Country Park will keep the children entertained as will the local Butts Farm whilst Magicland in Cirencester is available for very young children if the weather is poor.
Horse riding and bycicle hire is also available locally.
Regular polo matches are played in & around Cirencester.
Cirencester is the nearest town and is only 10 minutes drive, where you will find large Tesco, Waitrose, M&S and a good variety of shops/boutiques, pubs and restaurants.
The town of Cirencester (formerly named Corinium was the second largest town in Britain during Roman times) is home to the Corinium Museum, the Cirencester Abbey (the longest known Saxon church in England) and host to regular market days.
Other popular Cotswold towns are within a 40 mile radius (Tewkesbury, Broadway, Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water, Swindon, Bath, Oxford and Stratford upon Avon)

"Ideal meeting place"
We needed space for all the family to meet up to celebrate a birthday. Six adults and four children stayed here with comfort. Lovely home and the owners were kind enough to cater to our last minute questions and requests with no fuss at all. Super home on a super estate.

"Beautiful, modern and spacious house in a stunning setting"
A great place to stay with family or friends. The house was well stocked with essentials and it was in the perfect spot to access the spa, tennis courts, walks, lakes etc. It was very clean and spacious. The owner gave us some great tips on what to see and do and was very helpful.

"We had an amazing time and are booking to come again it was so good"
We were a group of 9 friends looking for somewhere to have a get together within fairly easy reach for all. The location was geographically spot on and visually stunning. The lakes are beautiful and tranquil and the lodge itself was a perfect blend of stylish yet comfortable and very well equipped. We couldn't have asked for more. Stephanie was great at the booking stage and John gave us some great pointers on where to go and eat & places to visit once we arrived. Cannot fault the place and we are booking again for next year.

"relaxing and luxurious in tranquil surroundings"
The house was a real treat, being warm, clean and very comfortable with a lovely view from the back windows of the property. The upside down layout worked really well and makes the most of the property. Comfortable beds, lots of hot water and all the mod cons and electrical gadgets you could need. We had a truly lovely weekend and the use of the spa was an added bonus.

"Great location, fantastic property, would love to go back"
We had a wonderful week long stay at Velvet Lodge. There were five adults and a small dog in our party for a holiday in the Cotswolds. We had a mixture of days around the estate and days away exploring the local area. The property was perfectly situated with places like Stratford, Stonehenge, Bath and all the picturesque Cotswold villages within comfortable driving distances. We even had a trip to London on the train which was very do-able with the train station being 5 miles away. Closer to home there were numerous good walks to be enjoyed and plenty of places to explore on foot. On site the facilities were excellent with the choice of activities available and the quality of the Spa. Personally we would have liked even more activities, more so for the evenings, for example snooker/pool tables, table tennis, a bar, darts etc. The property itself is light and airy with plenty of space for everyone. It is situated in a great place within the estate with the sun on the balcony for the afternoon and evenings making it a great place to sit and relax overlooking the small lake. Pretty much everything had been thought of making it a ‘home from home’ and the communication with the owners was spot on making the whole booking process easy and instilling confidence that we would enjoy our stay. The only negatives we could think of it is a bit tired in places, there are some signs of wear and tear and could do with a mini-freshen up for next season. The rules are a bit heavy going and potentially off putting, this is a holiday after all, but I wouldn’t let it put you off and if we didn’t live so far away we would be back every year. Thanks for a great holiday and hope to stay with you again in the future!
Hi Simon Thank you so much for your feedback, we are glad you had a good time and enjoyed the property and the estate and are considering to return. We do value your feedback reference fleshing up the place, we have just gone thought the busiest time of year with continuous bookings since June so some wear and tear during the summer period is a norm for us, we glad that winter is approaching and we will have the opportunity to get our paint brushes out!!! We do hope to be of assistance to you in the near future. Kasha, John and Stephanie

"Superb getaway location"
I booked Velvet Lodge for a birthday celebration with close friends and their your families What a great choice it was! I found it through HolidayLettings.co.uk, which made it easy to search out exactly what I was looking for. The booking process was really efficient, you deal with really friendly and helpful people at cotswoldsspaholidays.com, who come back to you quickly, then send lots of useful info & relevant after you've booked. The house is fab, great size, comfortable, all the mod cons. The village it's in is also fab, lovely location with lots in the surrounding area. A real bonus of this house is the included access to the on-site Spa which has an indoor pool, a heated outdoor pool and an Eco Pool which according to the kids was "awesome". All the adults felt like we'd been away for longer than a long weekend. I highly recommend booking via cotswoldsspaholidays.com, it was well worth the money and I'd definitely go back.

"Great for families and it doesn't matter the weather"
Our second visit to Lower Mill Estate. Last time we stayed in the Mill estate side, this time we upgraded to Clearwater so we had access to the indoor pool and it was such a great decision! The indoor pool is perfect for children, whatever the weather, and Velvet Lodge is a great house with lots of room and perfectly set up for families. We will be back!
