Location description from owner

The Cotswolds region

The Cotswolds area is one of England's favourite destinations; famous for hundreds of honey-colour limestone villages in a beautiful rural setting.

In spring time, the Cotswolds offers fantastic walking and cycling, beautiful gardens, bustling farmers' markets and a delightful cafe culture.

Lower Mill Estate sits in the heart of the Cotswolds within easy reach of all the area's attractions, including Michelin-starred restaurants, treasure-filled craft and antique fairs, farmers' markets, country pubs and organic delicatessens.
Popular places to visit:

BOURTON-ON-THE-WATER
Famously picturesque, Bourton-on-the-Water is sometimes referred to as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds' thanks to the low stone bridges that cross the River Windrush. It is also known for the distinctive architecture of its 17th century buildings, the Dragonfly Maze – a yew maze partly designed by the artist Kit Williams – and its 1930s model replica of the village, which even includes a model of the model village.

CIRENCESTER
The largest settlement in the Cotswolds, Cirencester is a prime example of the traditional market town. With a vibrant history stretching back to Roman times when it was a thriving centre for the wool trade, Cirencester has many stories to tell. Most recently, it played an important role in the Arts and Crafts movement.

CHELTENHAM
About 25 miles north of Lower Mill Estate, on the edge of the Cotswolds, lies Cheltenham, a large spa town that's been a popular holiday resort since mineral springs were discovered in 1716. Cheltenham plays host to a number of international festivals and events including one of the most famous meetings in the horseracing calendar. The town is also known for its Regency architecture and its fascinating galleries and museums.

BATH
To the south west of Lower Mill Estate lies Bath, another spa town famous for its architecture. Bath is in fact a World Heritage Site and major tourist destination thanks to its cultural and historical roots. It offers visitors the opportunity to bathe in naturally heated spring waters, as well as experience world-famous buildings, five theatres, and a number of music, film, literature and food festivals scattered throughout the year.

Lower Mill

Lower Mill Estate is a secure managed environment, rich in nature and wildlife. Scenic lakes provide plenty of opportunity for boating and fishing, while cyclists and runners can take advantage of the fresh clean air in complete safety thanks to a network of private footpaths. If, on the other hand, it's total relaxation you are after, the award-winning Pevonia spa offers a vast range of health and beauty relaxation treatments.
For those eager to get close to nature, the woodlands and hedgerows are home to a diverse range of native wildlife, ready to explore. There are endless activities and facilities on site to keep you and the family entertained; enjoying the great outdoors season after season.

On site facilities include: Spa. Gym. Miss Mouse Adventure Trail. Nature trails. Playground. Restaurant. General Store. Bike hire. Tennis. Yoga. Pilates. Personal Training. Kayaking. Canoeing. Fishing.
An onsite store is situated by the old mill catering for local provisions as well as those necessities that you just can't do without! So whether its logs for the fire, local meats for the BBQ or you just fancy an afternoon sitting in the sun with a newspaper and a frothy cappuccino, the General Store has this and much more to offer. Open every day throughout the holidays and Fridays and weekends out of school holidays.

An on-site restaurant, Ballihoo, will open this summer. Headed up by Chef Rod McCormick, diners can enjoy the finest fresh local produce in a modern eco-environment that delivers a true taste of the Cotswolds.

“Stunning stay for families with fun and relaxation for everyone.”

Reviewed 24 Nov 2015

This is undoubtably a winner for a family retreat or even a romantic get away. Every amenity to be comfortable, set in a wilderness of beauty and adventure. A perfect place for children of all ages and space and options enough for everyone to relax. Our children loved the walking with the promise of beavers and a REAL treasure hunt an absolute winner! Our stay was extremely comfortable, with beautiful views over the water and the best hot shower ever. We would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for the perfect get away.

Reviewed 23 Nov 2015

Great stay for the entire Holiday rental was clean, with much attention to deco. views are stunning, activities were amazing. Kids had loads of fun in the games room which catered for all ages. Fully equipped kitchen and very relaxing lounge area. My highlight was the fireplace and tranquil view of the lake. Walks and outdoor activity options were abundant. Kept us entertained for the entire weekend. A favorite I would visit again.
