Trout Lodge is a privately-owned home and the owners are based locally to provide you with that personal touch for your family holiday.

Lower Mill Estate’s lakes are a paradise for nature lovers with peaceful walks, wild flower meadows and water birds. The resident population of beavers are the pride of a unique programme to re-introduce this species after a 500-year absence from the British landscape and can sometimes be glimpsed if you wait patiently to see them.

There is a 5km walking/running/cycling route around the lakes at Lower Mill and tennis courts and boating opportunities on the water- canoes and stand up paddle boards can be hired for exploring the lakes- particularly magical at sunrise or sunset. Boats, cycles and other equipment can be pre-booked through the Family Adventure Store so your equipment is waiting at Trout Lodge on your arrival.

Children are well catered for with play areas, trampolines, a ‘Miss Mouse Adventure Trail’ and a football pitch. Families can explore to their hearts' content on foot or bikes on the many private, traffic- free paths, many of which are fine for a sturdy baby buggy. There’s a small ‘pets corner’ with chickens to visit and riverside walks where you can stop and play ‘poo sticks’ on the bridges.

Please note that with the close proximity to open water throughout Lower Mill, young children should not be left unsupervised.

Next to the Spa is a restaurant which is exclusively for the use of guests at Lower Mill and offers breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks and a takeaway menu using the finest and freshest local produce. Perfect for morning coffee and croissants or a bistro supper with friends.

“A wonderful place to stay with a group of friends and family of all ages”

Reviewed 30 Dec 2013

We spent a week in Trout Lodge over Christmas. It was a lovely, spacious lodge, with the double height ceiling in the living space a great feature making the place feel even larger. The owners have taken a great care with the small details, like children's plates, games, DVDs, a Christmas tree with decorations and little touches like dishwasher tablets that are often not provided. The bunk beds are large enough, even for adults, and the bunk room on same floor as the main living area is far enough away from the lounge areas to not be interrupted by noise. The facilities in the spa are great and it is very near by (1 minute walk). Only negative would be that the fridge is small for large groups, but then we did have Christmas dinner to deal with..... Very happy to recommend this to anyone, winter or summer.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your kind review. We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay at Trout Lodge and hope you will visit us again soon.
