Location description from owner

The England region

Looe (which comes from the Cornish word ' Logh', meaning deep water inlet) is a small coastal town, fishing port and civil parish in the former Caradon district of south-east Cornwall, England, with a population of 5,280 (2001 census).

Looe is divided in two by the River Looe into East and West Looe which are connected by a lovely arched stone bridge. The town is approximately 20 miles (32 km) west of the city of Plymouth and seven miles (11 km) south of Liskeard.

The town is situated around a small working fishing harbour and along the valley of the River Looe which flows between East and West Looe to the sea beside the stunning sandy beach in East Looe (only a short 4 minute walk from The Little House).

Off shore to the west, opposite the stonier Hannafore beach, lies the picturesque St George's Island, commonly known as Looe Island. which you can visit by boat. There are also boat trips to Polperro, up the River Looe, Glass Bottom boat trips, fishing trips, speed boat trips.... all sorts of fun to be had on the water.

West Country

East Looe with its historical old buildings, narrow cobbled streets, harbour and stunning beach is full of charm, character and is a fantastic base for the perfect holiday.

From The Little House, you will quickly find all you need in the way of shopping, fine dining, fantastic restaurants, shops, galleries, cafes, quaint old inns and pubs.

Other local attractions include the beaches, sailing, fishing, diving, snorkeling, kayaking, and spectacular coastal walks - especially that via Talland to Polperro.

If you head up the river (either on a boat trip, walking or by kayak) you will be amazed at the lush green vegetation and tranquility - perfect for bird watching and peaceful walks in shaded woods.

Outside the busy summer months, the town remains a centre for shopping and entertainment with food festivals, raft races and all sorts of interesting markets and events, not to mention the annual Music Festival in September. It is also ideal for walkers and hikers as there are many interesting routes to choose from, including the wonderful Coastal Path which winds off in both directions along the coast.

Looe is also famous for New Year's Eve when there is a tradition of the townsfolk wearing fancy dress and the streets are thronged with revelers in inventive outfits. Looe has been on the list of the top 10 places in the UK to celebrate New Year for many years now and the celebrations are always topped off by an amazing fireworks display from the Banjo Pier.

“Fabulous place to relax and enjoy East Looe”

Reviewed 22 Aug 2013

Fabulous property for a getaway holiday! Great harbour views from the lounge which is light and spacious qualities not often found in East Looe properties. Exceptionally friendly, welcoming and well-organised owners who made every effort to ensure my family enjoyed their stay. The location was superb being close to all the amenities and in very close proximity to the beach. Being so close to the main town it was so peaceful. We will definitely be returning for another stay.
