Location description from owner

The East Anglia region

East Anglia is one of the hidden gems of the UK. Heritage- filled, with stunning landscape and plenty of character, all within easy reach of London.

Suffolk itself is blessed with rolling hills, beautiful old villages, great pubs and plenty of historic sites. Close to Hall Barn is the market town of Bury St Edmunds with its ruined Abbey, once home to one of the most powerful monasteries in the country.

Then there is Suffolk's coastline, with the beautiful villages of Aldeburgh and Southworld and atmospheric Dunwich, a once prosperous town that is now being reclaimed by the sea. Aldeburgh is rumoured to have the best fish and chips in the country!

The beautiful university town of Cambridge is just over an hour away, with its historic collages, punting and art.

There are plenty of cultural happenings in East Anglia: the Wolsey theatre in Ipswich and the smaller Quay Theatre in Sudbury put on an interesting repertoire. In the summer the air throngs with music and performing arts, with the Cambridge jazz festival, the Aldeburgh festival, Latitude and many other smaller events.

Long Melford

Hall Barn is in a secluded and peaceful location just on the edge of the historic village of Long Melford.

Long Melford is in an area of Suffolk that grew rich in the wool trade and is still blessed with numerous timber framed traditional villages all in close proximity. The most famous of which, Lavenham, is just five miles away.

Long Melford, famed for having on of the longest high streets in the country, is noted for its numerous pubs, lifestyle and antique shops.

It is also home to two historic houses: Melford Hall, run by the National Trust and privately owned Kentwell Hall, known for its historic experiential events. It is on the Kentwell estate that Hall Barn sits and as such visitors get free entry to the house during their visit, and discounts off any special events going on.
