There are a wide variety activities, attractions and sports in the area:

BEACHES - From sandy surf beaches to rock pools and coves, there are beaches for all tastes and pursuits.

Particularly recommended are the surf beaches of Bigbury and Bantham, with surf at one end and rock pools at the other. Also recommended are the award winning Blackpool Sands and the miles of fine pebbles at Slapton Sands. At Salcombe there are the lovely South & North Sands Beaches. Catch the ferry from Salcombe to East Portlemouth and you will be rewarded with more beautiful beaches like Sunny Cove. Bigbury and Blackpool Sands have excellent organic Venus Cafes at which to lunch or grab a coffee. From Bigbury you can go to Burgh Island and eat at the traditional Pilchard Inn.

ADVENTURE PARKS One of the largest in the South West is at Woodlands Adventure Park. This is 20 minutes drive away from the Barn and boasts enough entertainment to keep everyone amused (for a reasonable price) for the day (at least).

BOAT HIRE - For fishing, sailing or leisure can be hired from either Salcombe or Dartmouth.

BOAT TRIPS & FERRIES - run regularly from Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and Salcombe across all of the estuaries.

CINEMA - a restored local cinema (the Reel) is running in Kingsbridge.

FISHING - a number of coarse fisheries, game fishing for sea trout and salmon on the River Avon or sea fishing for bass from local beaches/boats. Also short Mackerel trips run out of Salcombe and for the more adventurous, deep sea trips.

GARDE, Abbeys, Castles and Houses - abound, but most notably are the Gardens at Soultram House, the Abbey at Buckfastleigh and Castles at Totnes and Dartmouth.

GOLF - there are several local courses; of special note is the links course at Bigbury, with spectacular cliff views from the course over the Avon Estuary towards Burgh Island

NATURE RESERVES - Slapton Ley is only 20 minutes away, while the Dartmoor National Park is 20 minutes inland and caters for horse riding, canoeing and other outdoor pursuits

STEAM RAILWAYS - at Buckfastleigh along the River Dart and at Kingswear up the Dart Estuary to Paignton

Walks - there are numerous country, woodland and spectacular coastal walks along the cliff tops

There is also a rich and ancient heritage, South Hams market and coastal towns will repay a visit. The towns of Totnes, Dartmouth, Salcombe and Kingsbridge all have a unique character and are well worth exploring. Of particular note are the two towns nearest Auton Cottage; Salcombe can be reached by passenger ferry from East Portlemouth. The town is perched on the cliffs facing Bolt Head and is a world renowned centre for sailing and watersports. Kingsbridge at the top of the estuary is a vibrant market town, with a good variety of local shops, pubs and restaurants.

“An Amazing Place - return visit booked”

Reviewed 3 Sep 2016

I booked the stay for my wifes 40th birthday, firstly as a country get away and secondly because of the size of the property we could bring plenty of family and friends. I was looking forward to the break so much just from the photos from the website, but had no idea how big the place was, and in actual fact no amount of photos can ever do it enough justice. It is amazing. If I won the lottery I would be knocking on the owners door asking to buy it. It is so peaceful being at the end of the lane, with no-one else driving past. it was heaven for our dogs, who would just wander about to their hearts content each morning. Chris the groundsman was so nice, and full of any advice or answers to questions. We didn't get bored of walking around the grounds, or lazing in front of the fire. Although I didn't use it myself, the Victorian shower got rave reviews from everyone who did. I would absolutely recommend this country retreat to anyone, and we have booked to go back again for longer later this year.

Thanks Simon, We look forward to welcoming you and your family back to the farm, the hot tub will be fired up nicely, a warm log fire will be waiting for you on your arrival and the trampoline is waiting for the children. Very kind regards Charles M-Smith owner Chris Wigg, estate manager

“Amazing!”

Beautiful property, stunning countryside/estate. Groundsman was incredibly friendly and gave us a tour of the estate on the back of his 'truck'. Will be coming back again for sure!

“Absolutely Fabulous”

Reviewed 21 Jul 2012

We were able to have our whole family together, ranging in ages from 3 months to 78 years old, plus 1 dog & there was something for all of us. Amazingly comfortable accomodation, glorious scenery & loads of activities/days out. Both the owner, Charles, & his groundsman, Chris, were extremely friendly & helpful. None of us wanted to leave & those of us that can, will certainly be back again. A huge thanks.

“Wonderful base to enjoy South Devon”

Reviewed 20 Jan 2012

We had a great time and were happy to let the kids go off by themselves to explore and cycle in safe, interesting surroundings. I even managed to catch a small Salmon (which I returned) and a Sea Trout which I ate. We visited different beaches at Torcross, Blackpool, Bantham, and another near Modbury all within an easy drive. The house has a great log fire(and plenty of logs) which makes everything very snug when the tempreature dips a bit, and is a great place to relax with friends and family. Very nice all round

“Excellent - 100% Perfect”

Reviewed 26 Aug 2011

We enjoyed a fabulous holiday at Yeo Farm. Despite booking stupidly late, our request was handled peerlessly and in the most accommodating and friendly manner. The property exceeded our expectations: wonderful space to roam, spread out, entertain and play; totally comfortable, clean and tidy and furnished in an exceedingly homely manner; lovely light kitchen in which to cook; comfy beds; 1000 things to do for us and the kids; an exceptional Victorian power shower; 100 acres of woodland and grassland to explore; a river in which to fish and bathe; brilliant restaurant a short drive away (California Cross Country Inn); especially welcoming and attentive housekeeper ... in general, we couldn't have enjoyed a nicer time. And great value-for-money. Jonathan & Polina Willis & Family

“Brilliant! The location if fantastic!”

Reviewed 26 May 2011

Very good, friendly communication. Trusting too, which is refreshing in this day and age. We had a lovely reception from the site manager, who helped spring a surprise on my wife (50th birthday). Everyone was very welcoming and friendly and the location is to die for! Would definitely think about going again.
