Ivybank Cottage is a gem of a cottage offering a high standard of furnishing and facilities with beautiful loch & mountain views. Ideal for a romantic break, rural retreat or just to treat yourself to what makes this part of Scotland so special – a break in a beautiful part of the Loch Lomond National Park. Excellent value for money. It welcomes back many repeat guests.
Ivybank was built around 150 years ago as the gardeners cottage for the large Victorian villa situated next door and despite total refurbishment to modern standards retains many original features.
Inverlounin Road is a single track private road leading from the village and following the east shore of Loch Goil. In parts the road is in an elevated position and there are many original grand Victorian homes built between the road and the grounds sloping down to the loch side.
Parking is at a premium so the parking bay for one car off the road at the entrance to the property is a great start. As soon as you step out of your car you will be drawn to the view. The cottage is elevated from the loch side and this is only a taste of the uninterrupted views to be enjoyed from the outside patio area.
Care has been taken to make sure access is suitable for all. There is a ramp with a slight slope to a side door and then one step to enter the property. From there all rooms, except the double bedroom, are on one level so Ivybank is suitable for anyone with limited mobility.
You enter the cottage via the patio area into the sun room. Being on the east side of the loch you have the sun till late in the day when it dips behind Beinn Bheula and Beinn Lochain. The sun room is private and perfect for relaxing and enjoying the view and looking out for the visits from the red squirrels and bird life in the garden.
From the sun room you enter a small hallway which has a full sized walk in shower and toilet off to one side.
The kitchen is modern and equipped with everything you need for a self-catering holiday. There is a wall mounted TV with its own signal. You can watch a different programme than what is being shown in the lounge.
The heart of the cottage is the spacious lounge. Who wouldn't enjoy the special effect that a wood burning stove adds to a cottage? The modern touch of a large wall mounted TV with Freeview and DVD makes for a cosy space to socialise and relax.
Bedroom 1: Is down 3 steps and has a King sized double bed and built in wardrobes giving ample storage space. An en-suite has a bath with shower over the bath.
Bedroom 2: Has twin beds 2ft 6inch wide and built in wardrobes with ample storage space. Beds are made up for your arrival.
Ample hot water on demand and the cottage is heated by temperature controlled space heaters. Towels are provided.
Free WiFi is available throughout the cottage.
To the front of the cottage is the patio area with a path leading down to the garden which is built on three terraces. The views across the loch to the far hills are stunning at any time of year, and sunsets are a delight.
It is a pleasant 10 minute stroll down Inverlounin Road into the village where you will find the post office and general good store, as well as The Goil Inn and the Shorehouse Inn. Both serve food and have bars. Either a 30 minute walk through the village, or around the loch side; or a 5 minute drive on quiet roads, you will find more dining and activities available at the Drimsynie Estate. For a small loch side village there truly is an impressive choice of places to go and things to do.
Boat hire is available in the village, with free fishing on the loch. There are endless walks from the doorstep for all ages and fitness and cycling and mountain biking give access to fabulous views
Short breaks are welcome all year round and you can arrive any day.

The Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park region
This area of Scotland is known as Argyll, and is renowned for its wild and rugged scenery. Peppered with sea and inland lochs and miles of often remote coastline, it is a favourite area for visitors from all over the world.
Driving through the historic towns brings a variety of interesting curio shops, museums, places to eat and visitor attractions. Popular places include the living museum at Inveraray Jail, Inveraray Castle, the underground power station at Loch Awe, take a cruise on Loch Lomond or try Quad Biking at Quadmania overlooking Loch Long.
The area is also renowned for its food and produce, with Loch Fyne Oysters being just half an hour from Lochgoilhead, as well as the microbrewery Fyne Ales where you can visit their tap room and have a brewery tour.
Argyll offers a truly great variety of places to go and things to do.
Email us for a copy of our 17 page Destination Guide for Lochgoilhead. It covers everything you need to know about what is happening in the village as well as activities, restaurants, walks and touring in the area. There is much to tell about this special place. It is updated to make sure all the details are accurate.
Lochgoilhead, although only around an hour's drive from Glasgow, has a remote, relaxed feel to it. Situated within the Loch Lomond National Park, the village is a paradise for walkers, water sport enthusiasts, those who love 'the great outdoors', and those who are just looking for somewhere to crash out!
Due to the fact the village is at the end of the road, there is very little through traffic, couple this with good amenities at the local hotels leisure centre, the village is very popular with young families during the traditional holiday periods. The village has also become popular with retirees, many who visit to enjoy the tranquillity, or have retired to the area, often having enjoyed decades of memorable holidays in the village.
While some never leave the glen during their stay, many use the village as base to explore the west coast, either down through the Kintyre Peninsula, or further west to the Oban area. Just over one hour north is magnificent Glencoe which was the Scottish setting in the latest Bond film, Skyfall, as well parts of the Harry Potter movies.
Whatever your choice, active or relaxed, Lochgoilhead is a wonderful place that often captures the hearts of those who visit.

"What a fantastic place"
We are all so pleased with the cottage, it's clean and tidy and has everything you need for your stay. We had an issue with the WiFi but with very friendly neighbours they allowed us to log into theirs. The views from the cottage will stay with me forever and as we all went up by motorbike the roads are just what we went for. You need to plan your food before you go, there's a Cost-cutter in the caravan park if you like packet food but nothing else for miles. The same needs to be said for petrol, your'e about 15 miles from a fuel stop and there not 24 hour. Don't think it's a problem, you just need to plan your stay/trip so that you don't go hungry or run out of fuel. If you like walking, fishing, motorbiking, wildlife, or just sitting relaxing then you can't go wrong here.

"Fantastic views, beautifully furnished and excellently equipped."
Ivybank Cottage is a fantastic cottage set in some of the most spectacular scenery in the UK. Views are great, activities for children are endless -canoeing on the Loch is a super days entertainment, walking available straight from the door and ideally located to explore other parts of Scotland on a day trip (we managed ferry crossing to Mull & full island tour, also Harry Potter Steam Train from Fort William to Mallaig). The cottage itself is extremely well equipped , very cosy and ideal for either families or couples .
